Typical , blame the referees for everything. Of course they make mistakes, they are human. What player has not made a mistake? As for MNS , on a lot of occasions referees are slated despite the fact that the one camera that is used to cover the game does not cover the incident fully. I have seen highlights of games and based on what I could see , you could not say whether the ref was right or wrong, yet the likes of Collins (fool) is allowed to slag referees off

Everything? If you actually read the thread you'l see they are being blamed for their mistakes
What player has not made a mistake?
There are sanctions when players make mistakes too, from yellow or red cards to being dropped for a bad performance.
Why should referees be different?

From reading todays Evening Echo Tom Connolly might be joining the 5 game ban club after his performence in the Derry City vs Cobh Ramblers game.

After the chant down in Ramblers last week vs Bohs it seems Eddie and his moustache might be going on World Tour of Gay Pride parades.:D

You can't resurrect something that wasn't there in the first place
That's very harsh! :p
Some of the Refs who were in the School of Excellence with me are now refereeing in the 1st Division, these are refs in their early 20s and have gone through a pretty thorough course.
The problem is though, that like myself, other things can come up in life for referees. I pretty much had to choose between a career or being a part-time referee.

That ex-Football League bloke who was watching you on that kids game in Norway thought you looked like you could make it further tbh.
Tough decisions have to be made though...

As Pat Dolan, said in the star, if every player who made a mistake / bad performance was dropped for 5 games, we'd have no players, mind you just as well as we'd have no refs:D
This is pure crap and wont improve things at all, it will just lead to more idiots thinking abuse refs and they may be stood down, instead of looking at thier own house and concentrating on getting things in order.

ooops! I didn't add the smiley!
Granted the School of Excellence is needed but only some are reffing in the first division. Sadly many, like yourself have given up, maybe only temporarily.
Others, I see in junior and inter football and the el, sometimes only running the line, and from observing them over the past few years would not have any great confidence in their ability.
That ability may be great in theory or in the classroom, but translating that and applying common sense on the field of play doesn't seem to apply.
I'd occasions to question decisons post game and the rubbish that was trotted out to justify the errors made me wonder if they actually understood the laws of the game in application rather than as a text on a page.
That said, I wouldn't be a referee.

I agree with what you say but throughout the school of excellence these referees are constantly assessed in their Junior or Intermediate Leagues.
I was in a group of 20 odd and only about 4 have made it to the eL, so these are the guys who obviously have the best potential in the view of the guys who run it.
These are the best young referees in the country so if these guys don't make the grade it will be a big struggle.
I'd say this season someone has said that every single Premier Division referee is rubbish, if these are the guys judged to be the best what do people want?
As for you approaching a referee after a match and asking over a particular decision you'll always get them just quoting the laws of the game to you. If someone I didn't know asked me about a decision I'd do the same.
