Getting the ticket with the eircom League of Ireland

The eircom League of Ireland today announced an exciting new initiative with Ticketmaster, the global leader in ticket sales, which will see tickets for all twelve Premier Division clubs made available through Ticketmaster outlets.

The move will make tickets for top flight eircom League of Ireland action even more accessible as attendance figures at matches continue to rise across the country.

The 2007 season saw over 100,000 extra people attend eircom League of Ireland fixtures and that upward trend has continued into 2008.

The new partnership with Ticketmaster will see tickets for Premier Division matches made available through ticketmaster.ie as well as through Ticketmaster outlets nationwide. Supporters hoping to beat the queues can now purchase their match tickets in advance.

The FAI today welcomed the initiative with Ticketmaster, saying that the move will encourage even more people to enjoy the delights of live football.

Noel Mooney, National Club Promotion Officer said: “Making tickets for our Premier Division matches available through Ticketmaster will open-up our game to a new audience and will encourage people who have never experienced live football to get involved in the eircom League of Ireland. There is no better form of entertainment than live football and that can be seen by the ever-increasing number of people attending our matches”.

Eamonn O'Connor, Managing Director, Ticketmaster, said: "Ticketmaster is delighted to be providing the FAI and the eircom League of Ireland clubs with a modern, hi-tech ticketing facility. The FAI is one of the leading sporting organisations in the country while the clubs provide weekly enjoyment for thousands of people as well as fostering Irish footballing talent. Ticketmaster is very happy to be associated with these worthwhile endeavours and to help make buying tickets even easier for fans."

Yes, you can stay longer in the pub prematch and won't have to queue for upto 35mins at the garden sheds outside St Pats.

From a practical viewpoint, however - what happens when a game is likely to be a sell-out ? I'm assuming then that Ticketmaster will be told to feck off for fear of confusing things, and the clubs themselves would sell them direct.

Ticketmaster will have an allocation for all matches as decided by the clubs. IF Derry want to withdraw that allocation for a particular game they can. Similar to how the FAi sell tickets for some games and not others.

I think it can only be postitive for the league.

Will the €2 handling charge be added on to the ticket price?

Also it could be a good way of getting away with paying in as student price if you are early twenties but not actually a student, I can't see ticketmaster being too bothered.

Yes they will charge a handling fee

Yes you will be able to buy a kids ticket / student ticket but you may find you will not be admitted without id

It will maybe help bring in the odd tourist. There's plenty of us here I'm sure who'd want to go to a match when we're in a foreign country and it obviously takes away the (unfounded usually) worry they won't be able to get a ticket for a match in Ireland when it can be sorted out before you've gone.

Great move. If it adds 3% now, that's an improvement.
But it'll get increasingly significant as people generally move to buying online, and it's important to have eL tickets there with everything else.
In the meantime, in the sports section's 'hot tickets', Shams and Bohs are sandwiched between American Wrestling Rampage and Cricket Ireland.

it's a great move - not all fans live where their team is based so it makes getting tickets harder - anything that improves that has to help.

as long as they consider the touting effect for big games then fair play another step in the right direction

It'd have got me in to the playoff against Dundalk in about the 2nd minute rather than the 6th, barring the fact that that wasn't a Premier League game... Other than that I'd rather make sure all the cash was going to the club hosting the game rather than any chance Ticketmaster could be skimming some. Plus I'm so indecisive I'd be handing over e-Ticket printouts and getting funny looks from the people in the stiles generally :D

we have had ticketmaster all season , they had to buy one extra print cartridge to cover demand and there is still loads of ink left:D
