There was talk in the Sun about Hunt saying he'd like to play for Ireland. He said that it annoys him when English people who know nothing about Ireland play for us.

Add this to Kerr saying what a great player he is at half-time in the Bohs game on TV I wonder will he be a surprise call up. He's been here for long enough to be nationalised. I'd say he;s good enough considering the other options we have.

there's no doubting he's one of the best, if not the best player in the EL. i'd love to see more EL players get their shot.

but would he qualify? No Irish parentage as far as i know, he's been here, five years is it. Is that long enough to apply to be naturalised.

Yeah it is long enough. He is entitled to apply for irish citizenship. IMO he's the kind of player we need anyway, showed his class against rosenborg again. best midfielder in the league by a million miles.

true, playing against internationals too, certainly didn't seem out of his depth.

he is eligable to apply in december, you have to be in the country for 5 years.

Negatives: is he too small? is he too old?

Positives: showed the Belarussian internations a trick or two. Soon to be more Irish than half the players that have played for Ireland in last few years. EL player.

Verdict: give him a chance in a friendly.

Potential chance to play in Australia or Turkey friendly games coming up?
He is a super midfield player.

He's a good player. I'd like to see him tested. It'd raise the profile of the eL clubs in Ireland again too. Remmeber all the excitement when Crowe got a game against Greece, and how surprised the doubters were at how good he was?

But how realistic is it? Hunt is a class midfielder, but what does it say about Ireland if they use another Englishman who decides on Ireland cause he won't be called up by England?
Not much IMO.

agreed, but at least for once it's someone who has actually lived and played in this country. In fairness, Poland did it with the nigerian lad- this kind of thing is happening more now.

Completley agree, and there's plenty of examples, isn't that how that Brazilian Alex ended up playing for Japan?

Central mid field is a weakness in our side, our biggest one imo, and there's no doubt Hunt is worth a chance at least, he played very well against a team of 11 internationals which is proof enough imo.

How old is he now? 27?
