Was I dreaming this morning or did I still see signs advertising the UCD game? It's a genuine question before anyone starts to make anything of it ok. Just that we passed it rather sharpish and didn't quite catch what was on it.

no not dreaming still advertising ucd which is apity seeing as if the bohs game was being advertyised now the amount of public knowing about game would have been huge seeing there was such a massive crowd in cobh over the weekend

So I wasn't dreamin then. Yep. Pity alright what with the crowd in town yesterday.

It's a disgrace to be fair.
If you look around the Top of the Hill area and Madden's window, you'll still find Shamrock Rovers posters!

Lads, I didn't want to start any waves and was only asking as we went past the sign rather sharpish. Do we know who put's them out because I haven't got a clue about it?

Spot on Luka signs werent changed. But 5 were taken, now I have only the bare amount left. All fixed today as was Maddens, just left them a while to see would anyone help out or volenteer to give a hand, but again nobody. So thats why they weren't changed.

Do you mean you didn't change the signs before the weekend because you wanted to see if anyone would help out?
People do what they can for the club Marco, if they can't help out they can't help out.
Surely as Club Promotions Officer your number one job is to get the gates to their maximum.
With the road signs being the best way of improving this and it being the busiest weekend in Cobh in years they should have got priority last week!
There should be a lot big liner visits over the coming months and a few signs near the deep water quay or the promenade should get maximum exposure.
Have you been onto the Chamber of commerce with reference to the big 'Cruiser Weekends' in the town.
They have done a fantastic job promoting these weekends and by working together you might get great soccer night packages put together too.
Deals on accomodation, food, drink for travelling supporters. The greater the away support the greater the home support!

agree with you rebel, we seem to shoot ourselves in the foot here some times.as regards to changing of signs it is a load of crap about waiting to see who would change them, the cpo is a paid employee of club and his remit is promotions so not right to pass the buck there how many times have they been passed by cpo it wouldnt have taken 10 mins to replace info, whenever things go awry it always comes back on supporters that they didnt help out if cpo is willing to cover my 12 hour night shift i will gladly go out and change info on a couple of posters:mad:

they should have been done, but you also have to think how many people volunter here on this site, yet never do anything, signs should be up by monday evening if not sunday, as soon as saturday passes then game for the following staurday should be up, if organised right and with the right people in place all would be ok, but this isnt the only problem area in the club, at least marco does his job, might not be according to our scedhuals, but its done the signs are up within 4 days of each game, rebel ram is on about packages for away supporters we cant even arrange for our supporters to go to games so no point trying to help other teams fans if you cant arrange 1 bus ever two weeks,

don in all fairness if people volunteer they do it because they believe they will be able to help, if in the end they cant do it then it should not be a slight on them, people have jobs, families and commitments and if it comes to a choice between my family and rams i am sorry but much as i love rams family will always come first, it is fine for people who havent chick nor child to look after to start berating people about not helping but when you have to juggle babysitters work and some down time then youll see how hard it is to commit to anything

ya relax there, im not saying about poeple not volunteering, im on about people who promise to volunteer, they say to marco that they will be down in the ground tomorrow to help out, and never turn up im on about those poople, once about 5 individuals pormised to to go to the ground and help with a tidy-up and one turned up, marco has asked for help several times and people have made promisses to help out, and then dont bother, if i make a promise to help i will show up as i promosed

family will trump rams any day priorities must be set in life

ya that is passing the buck alrite, they should have been changed. its a disgrace. id have no problem changing the signs. but the fact remains that there is a fully paid member of the club who should either change the signs or delegate someone.

Great point. No one is doubting Marco's ability but to say "I just left them there to see if anyone would help" is possibly his most stupid comment to date.

You haven't been shy in asking for help before Marco (quite rightly). Why didn't you just ask this time? Makes it look all very childish IMO.

That couldn't be further from the truth. Some of ur points are valid lads & I have no probs in getting grief. As for my work I had 6 days last week, and yes the signs were delagated out but not done, matter of fact on Saturday morning I was in Cobh in the rain collecting confiscated signs from the Council dump! So over the weekend I had Sat/Sunday afternoon & Monday. I too have a family and irespective of wheather I get paid or not do u honest think I will give up that little time to get signs up! The signs went up Tuesday when the team names were ready.

I ran a soccer challenge a few weeks ago and nobody lent a hand, and this was to increase support from the Midleton/East Cork area! You put up suggestions on this site which is great & very easy to do, but when it comes to doing anything very few will turn up. 1 person cannot do all the work no matter what they get paid.

We were never asked to help. I'm sure if you asked people would have helped.

sorry now lads, but as i said earlier in this thread marco has asked for help before and a few people were more than happy to look good here and volunteered to help him out on several occasions, but no-one turned up, maybe he should just waste more time asking here, plan work for the 4 or 5 voulunteers only to end up doing it all by himself, if poeple are willing to volunteer they have to actually turn up, this place is full of ideas but out of the 30-40 ideas in the past year the only thing we followed through on was gutsie sponsorship,

If people volunteer then don't turn up then that's bad form. To not actually ask though and then moan that nobody offered to help is a totally different ball game...

marco has asked beofre in several occasions, he didnt this time but tbh i dont know why he bothers anymore, i wouldnt even bother after the first and second failures,

maybe he should just post up every week for the next month on things he needs a hand with, and he can then report back who helped him and who promised to help him,

people are very quick to add there names to look good

when your getting paid to bring crowds to st colmans putting signs up should be done by the cpo, that for me is the number one way to get the crowd, and should be top of the priorities weekly to-do list

Especailly when undoubtedly it was the biggest crowd cobh has seen in years, they reckon their wss 20,000 people in cobh sunday for the ship, now thats a extra 8,00 that came in to cobh, via the fota rad and the ferry, and they see signs from 2 weeks ago saying cobh playing ucd, first all if it was an up to date sign and we actually were playin ucd they mightnt pay too much atttention, but one of the big attractions of rams season bohs, people would come to see them not us, but at least they'd come like. Massive oppurtunity missed here, and being honest ****in criminal to miss such a oppurtunity

depor
08/05/2008, 9:56 PM
ya your right, but the worst part is that this has been happening since the start of the season so people are immune to the signs i.e they dont look after the tenth time seeing out-of-date fixtures like ucd for 3 weeks, they just assume its not updated. its just a natural thing like the road work sign in the ditch for a year, no-one pays attention.

I'm not disputing that. All I'm saying is it's a bit rich to moan that nobody would've helped when you didn't actually ask. Maybe no-one would've offered again Marco I don't know, but to assume that they wouldn't and use it as an excuse is amateur.

a pity there isnt a game scheduled when the liner is in town , the gaa did a kind of expo last time pity there isnt a prem league game on where you could advertise at boat and have a kind of game plus entertainment ticket for passengers youd be surprised how many would leave liner and go and do something local

very good idea actually, should look into the dates marco, if they clash, it would be a fantastic opportunity
