I'm guessing the forum has been updated or something, just wondering what the 'tags' are about?

Looks like an advanced search function. Put in a few key words, which will link in future searches.

If you give a thread a tag or tags, they show up at the bottom, and people can click on the words to bring up other threads with those tags. Click tags (http://foot.ie/tags.php?tag=tags) below to see what I mean.

So a poster can put in a few keywords when posting and it'll bring it up later on when the same tag is used? Or if you put in a tag, will it bring them up via indexing or something?

Seems like it might be pretty handy. Any other new things to play with?

On a related topic, dahamsta - maybe I'm doing something wrong but exact query searches (for example, off the top of my head, "Grant Cooper") haven't been working for me for a while and have been returning either/or results. I'm sure this function used to work before, am I at fault or is there another operator I can use?

Use Report This Post on the first post in the thread.

What's the deal with tags from a users or moderators point of view? Is it only the thread starter can add tags, or can other users? How about mods?

any body can add them.

Thanks. That's disabled now, because of abuse. From now on, users can only tag their own threads.

Is there any way of you knowing (or at least pretending you do) who edits the tags so that the abusers might be some way deterred? Also, it's a novelty for now, and you know how people get (over-) excited by new things. :)
I think tagging could be a great resource, but limiting contributions to thread-starters will unduly restrict the lifeblood sources it needs to become useful (think Wikipedia :)), and as a result an environment will be created where people will, I'd imagine, soon start ignoring the function. Alternatively of course, you could employ a serial tagger to maintain all threads! But really, active participation is key to any potential success.
Though I do worry deeply whether a forum with centralised threads like this is a suitable habitat for tag cross-pollination. Time will tell.....
the above was brought to you as part of a mock test for a regulatory theory exam on Monday, thank you
