Wrong Paul Keegan.

Would have thought Anto Flood might have sneaked into this squad.

LMAO. You first divisioners crack me up....

BTw the age cut off was some time in 2007 so you can all relax about Keegan...

Anto Flood has done more to warrant inclusion this season than Ger Rowe. But would not of expected to see either of the aforementioned in the squad.

Just as a point of contention - why not change the title of the team from U23 if its just going to be a defacto eL team? I'm all for eL players getting a crack at the international scene, but I'd be highly surprised if some overseas players who are U23 (and aren't in the Trap 40) aren't better footballers than say...oh...Ger Rowe for example?

The name rings a bell for some reason, was he in Hothouse Flowers?

So Pat Devlin IS actually doing something? Sheeze, wonders will never cease.

How many of these are out of contract soon?

Pat Fenlon picks this squad, Devlin is with the incredible invisible B-team.

Tadhg Purcell anyone?

Yep id agree with you, he have been suffering with fitness lately as he had two groin ops over the break. But he is getting back to his best now and could offer alot to the squad......more than Rowe anyway

whats the name of the shams goal kepper?from what i have seen of him he should be up there. He is.
Barry Murphy - Shamrock RoversHad a poor game Vs. Pat's. Not long back from injury afaik.

Ah he didnt play too bad, he did drop it for the goal and got punished but alot of refs would have gave a free out.

Because the competition they're competing in is speficically for u23s apparently

Nowhere does it say any team should pick their strongest eleven

As I said on the Cobh forum:

There is no player more deserving of a position in that squad than Shane Guthrie. Maybe Seamus Coleman but definetley Gutsie is one of the best in the league.

They'd have been wrong then ;)

Agree about Purcell btw. Excellent against Pats last Sunday.

Higgins has had a number of NI U21 caps. I'm surprised he is eligible.

David Cassidy (ex rovers, now Dundalk) is an obvious miss from this squad, he has been in superb form for us, and has 3 goals in 5 of the 8 games he`s played, not bad for a small midfielder

Class act, surprised he didnt make the cut

Ah he didnt play too bad, he did drop it for the goal and got punished but alot of refs would have gave a free out.I thought the defence left him exposed for that goal. The way it came in, he had to come for it but had there been a defender properly placed, he wouldn't have had to.

The Rovers fans I was talking to on the walk home from Tolka on Sunday were also bemused as to why he was let go. Fingers crossed that he doesn't get injured!

I think Cassidy leaving Rovers was a pure commercial decision by Scully to pay for Bakers wages. Thats what I read earlier in the year.

thats exactly it, also just in my own personal opinion i dont think he was all that great a player, vastly overrated and his set piece delivery is truely awful

Your right that his set piece were terrible but he did have a fair few cracking games and also some shockers

Really . No first division player deserves a call up. Anyway, with Gill on board now there's no chance that Flood will get a call-up.

Heard today that Bray's Derek Pender and UCD's Ian Bermingham have been called up as replacements for the NI match. Story here (http://www.eircomloi.ie/news-centre/news-1/may2008/news-5/).

His Linfield team-mate Thomas Stewart had a shot cleared off the line after rounding Republic keeper Barry Murphy. "

Belgium are the third side in the group. But I don't know when the next matches are. If not by June then the Autumn.

There's four teams in each group. Belgium and, I think, England.

We (how odd to type that about an Ireland team) already beat Slovakia, so just Belgium to go. Draw in that will see Ireland through to the final.

Are you mental or just on the wacky baccy? I know he is one of your former guys. but he has been good only in fits and starts this season, drifts in and out of games, and can be very petulant. Sometimes I am surprised he makes the United squad, never mind the Irish one!

Rocky77
13/05/2008, 10:46 PM
Fair enough, you've seen him more than me I suppose, but from what I did see I thought he looked OK.

The petulance is noticeable at times, he wasn't really like that with us but was at Kilkenny the year before I'm told. Although he is that passionate type of player.

Maribor, don't be such an attention seeker. We read your first "awful, awful" post. Also what's FC Balzer's connection with Giovanni Trappatoni.
