View Full Version : Austria Abuse story
BBC News (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7371043.stm)
A 73-year-old Austrian man has confessed to imprisoning his daughter in a cellar for 24 years and fathering her seven children, police have said.
It can take a lot to shock these days but I think this story tops them all. It is hard to imagine such evil.
Coming on the back of the Natascha Kampusch story from two years ago have to wonder is there something wrong with Austria..? I think like Belgium with sex abuse it will take a really lot time for Austria to shake this stigma.

My mate and I were just talking about this and asking what's the problem in Austria, as we asked this George Hook was on the TV saying that the level of privacy given to individuals in Austria is the probloem. Not sure increased intrusion by the government/police into private lives is ever the answer to be honest

As in police should be checking people's houses for prisoners?

Probably, after Katy French killed herself sure the morons in this country wanted to hand the police free reign to match into any house they thought illegal drugs might be taken and search it after all
The wife is claiming she did not know what was happening.

We could maybe solve some problems by giving postmen master keys a la Chief Wiggum's so that they can search houses while people are out working and make sure there're no drugs/prisoners/unfed cats in the house. Bullet point two on your manifesto perhaps?

Nah, when my 'purification' is complete there will be no need for law enforcement, everyone will live in such fear that will tow whatever line I tell them to, after all, I've just killed 2/3 of the population :D
jebus, no-one will ever adopt a Limerick avatar, no matter what lengths you go to

I think as citizens of Ireland we should maybe avoid climbing atop this particular high horse.

But most people are idiots who need guiding by the hand
Surely this would be part of your manifesto?? :p

God almighty, what part of being a mass murderer striking fear into the hearts of the common man don't you people get. You wipe out 2/3s of the population and people's fear of being taken in the night will sort out crime, and if it doesn't then we'll have a fresh round of mass murder :D
It's all about creating the idea of permanent fear in the psyche of the populace. Once you have done that then you just need to sit back and plan your next masterstroke :)

Climate of fear you say? Hi George W, any plans for the retirement? Maybe a party in Iran or North Korea?
The unfortunate thing is this guy is in his 70s so will unlikely live long enough to take his punishment.
BTW good joke about Belgium in the film In Bruges :)

Just read about this in todays paper an its shocking , he a a secret door in the celler leading to the dungeon and had the whole place sound proofed , he acted as midwife at the births and dumped 3 of the kids on his own doorstep and claimed that his missing daughter abandoned them then brought them up unaware that their natural mother was living in the cellar.

He left 3 on his own door step as you say , left 3 down in the celler with his daughter , one died and he burned the body in a furnace.
Its believable that the mother/grandmother knew nothing i think they lived on a 3rd floor aparment in a block and the room the daughter was kept in was in the celler of the building behind a cabinet with a secret door with a key pad lock sh ewould have no reason to go down there.
Its fairly confusing about what has happened from what i gather she was 19 he locked her in there for the last 24 years saying she ran off with a cult. there are kids think the oldest was 19 living in there there whole life having never seen the outside world.

They have no chance whatsoever of developing anything approaching a normal life.

They did have a TV set, while I know this doesn't go any way near preparing them for life outside at least they have some notion that there is an outside world and would have some basic understanding of it. compared to if they had been kept in that dungeon all there lives with know knowledge of even the existance of an outside world let alone any experience of it

That kind of opens an idea for a different thread... what would you think of thew world if only relied on a TV. :p

watch a Korean film called Oldboy and find out.
The name of the town rang a bell when I heard this story, and I remembered that I was here in 1995 to watch Ireland play an Under 21 game with Austria. Out in the middle of nowhere place (at least an hour from Vienna by train) which didn't strike me as anything sinister.
