2-0 down. We were 1 down after 90 seconds.

Does Jeff Kenna get to review the contract after 1 match? He might want to.

2 poor goals given away,Mc.Cullough and O'Shea were brutal. The Ref was unreal,Bray took the pi** so many times with delaying of goal kicks etc and he let them away with it.And the free given that they scored the winner from was a joke.We were so poor in the first half, jeff was probably thinking "if i fake a heart-attack ill get to leave on health grounds":).Bit more fight in us in the 2nd half but we were still clueless going forward.
2 kids kicked out tonight, there was a group over by Section A who were not efven looking at the game, just kept screaming and chatting loudly all night and security just stood and watch as 2 of them fought. One lad was kicked out for throwing something at a steward i think.
Where was Tommy.S tonight,i wonder can Gufct fill us in on that.;).He'd have F**ked the kids out before halftime.

deegan had great chance to get utd up 3-2 before Bray got the winner. Thought the officials were just hillariously bad, how many times did bray timewaste and no yellow card yet fitzy throws the ball 5 yards and gets cautioned. Completly inconsistant. Jeff must have given a fair lashin` at half time DOB played great at the beginning of the 2nd half but lost it as the game progresses. Its looking up though as soon as we get sorted at the back!

Yes when we get things sorted at the back it will be better but the midfield needs huge improvement too, badly missing Russell the last few weeks.Jeff now knows the size of the task at hand.Bray werent great though and they are now mid table so if we do improve by a fair bit theres no reason we cant beat the drop.

what was the line up? did leech play??

Team was
Rogers
Regi Fitz Lester Marc
Jayo, Deegan, Fenn, O'Brien
O'Flynn, Faherty.
Now, the ones that actually 'played' as opposed as just being on the pitch were O'Flynn and, er, am, ah, well, that's it.
Things are NOT looking up. We should have lost by more, yet again we made a poor team look good, could, and should, have been at least 5-2 to Bray, the number of chances they missed were unreal and McCulloch cleared off the line twice. We need couple of centre backs, right back, right winger, central midfielder and striker. Sort those 6 positions out and we'll be flyng it

Defending was abysmal - lots count of the number of free headers they had from set pieces.
Apart from the 50 second cameo at the start of the 2nd half DOB was useless - same out tunnel vision.
On the other side Jay O Shea might as well have had his old green and white jersey on.
I was shocked at how poor we were 1st half, especially considering they should have been going balls out to impress the new boss. No composure, no confidence, belief, like a pub team.
And when was the last time a GUFC midfielder won the ball with a crunching tackle?

I take the points on the ref and the lino on the old stand side - but we have deeper problems that a ref letting them away with time wasting.

I think we learned today that marc is a first division player and the fitz is no captain.
I was delighted with Leech when he came on. He always seemed to be looking for the ball all the time and ran after everything. The kick up the ass did him a world of good i hope he keeps it up. I was delighted for Vinny (or Ger flaherty as today fm called him during the sports at 10pm)( or Derek o brien as jimmy norman called him during the match) anyway which ever flaherty scored well done i hope there are many more to follow.

However the bad news is we are doomed If we cant beat a bunch of poor part timers like that what hope have we got. Tc has a lot to answer for leaving our club in the shape he did.

don 't worry i don 't want his place but it s just that his name wasn't mentioned so i wondered if he d played... but now i m wondering what a disaster it could be at the end of the year if galway is going down i mean financially the fact that it s a full time set up it could be the big fall and u don t stand up and come back before years into the premier division after that ... :(

I think Jeff will have sorted out the defense by next week. I think he'll look at the tape and know how to sort it out.

Terry
26/04/2008, 11:02 AM
agreed, the defense is what he is concentrating on and will know what has to be done over the coming weeks. Strange to see 4 cameras at the match. Our entire team were rubbish except for o'flynn. Does O'Brien ever look up when running with the ball? He didnt get one cross in all night, or even find one player with a simple ball, he was woeful bad, never once looked up to see whats going on around him.

Wasnt there last night due to the flu but Derek has been living on past glories this year.He always takes the wrong option and spends most of the game moaning or with his hands on hips. We need everyone working for the team but at the moment there are to many passengers unwilling to bust a gut for the team.

Terry
26/04/2008, 11:34 AM
was talking to a few coaches from around the town last night (some of them former players) and it was agreed by all that a lot of them are living on past glories. Maybe it wouldnt do any harm in giving them a kick up the arse, drop them, and give the young lads a run? They all believe that the youth we have at the club now are some of the best in the country and can play unbelieveable football together, only down side would be there weight as they could be easily pushed aside, thats if someone could catch them !

It might inject some impetus in the short term, as Kenna said last night after the game...

"A few of the young lads did well in training and that is what we’ll be focusing on for the rest of the season,” he said.

Con Con I doubt he'll have the defence sorted by next week Its not a plumbing job! (Que jokes from opposing fans re Galway leaking goals). We were trying very hard in the 2nd half but the legacy of the former manager is right throughout the squad. If Jeff can get us out of trouble this season (I think he can) he will be the talk of the league/ manager of the year.

 suppose no one fancys mentioning how many times the left full got away with kicking lumps out of anyone near him, or number two (not going to attemp to spell the name) went elbows flying for every aerial challenge. The time wasting wasn't anything more than you's would do if ya were winning against us. And the free kick for the winner was spot on, a push in the backs a free kick end of.
And get out a geography book Bray is in WICKLOW not dublin

You're right, most teams would try to waste time to run down the clock, but to try to run it down with 60 mins left, I suppose time wasting during the first half is acceptable!!

Yes Hulsey you are right we would do exactly the same timewasting as Bray did last night and I would also expect us to be punished for it. However last night the ref refused to even have a word with the keeper about his "gamesmanship" as it is smetimes called, this led to repeated timewasting from free kicks, throw ins and kick outs. The timewasting was so prolonged it even prompted huge vocal reaction from the new stand not reknowned for its noise. My gripe is not with Bray but with the pish poor standards our "professional" league referees.

Ye are going very well (and deserved your points last night albeit just about) at the moment fair play but remember when things go bad for ye you will share my view.

Wicklow? Where's that? ;-)

bray were taken their time, as soon as they went ahead you could see them doin it, but in all honesty everyteam does it. it is up to the ref to quicken them up and he never did, also i cant remember 1 galway player asking the ref to speed them up at any time either...

your new stand looks brilliant fair play.. and your stewards, well 1 of em in particular, is a complete arsehole, he took air horns off us (the ones you blow into) saying they were too loud!!! we told him that the drums are louder and he threaten to take them off us then - complete w@nker. then after about 30 mins, 2 bray fans arrived late, one slipped on the ground and he grabbed both of em and kicked them out saying they were too drunk, absolute nonsense.

good win for us though!!!

I still maintain that Galway aren't in that big a trouble yet. As long as Harps, UCD and Cobh continue to pick up few points Galway are only a couple a wins away from being back in the race to avoid the drop. Bray looked as dead and buried as yourselves a month ago.

those 2 lads arrived 13 minutes late (same time as myself), and I have to say they looked well hammered to me too, one of them couldnt even walk in a straight line out again (the one with a celtic jersey on under his half opened shirt)!

Terry we have to many kids as it stands we need experience down the spine of the team and we need greg back from loan. We were fecked last year as well until he came into the team and got them playing football.

I thought Sinnott did very well. With Molloy & Conneely's cameos in previous games, the way forward seems obvious, but they can't be left to find their feet in the Premier, and will they still have the appetite next season in the First?

what kills me is direct ball through the middle - our centre backs cant deal with them - theres no creativity necessary

if fitz is turned he is bet - too slow - same for wes and lester also - maybe the pace of sinott is the answer?

The best thing that can be said at the moment is that UCD, Harps and Cobh are all just 5 points ahead of us despite our horrendous start. Not a good situation to be in but still retrievable although it may not be for much longer unless we start picking up some points.

Bray are already looking out of sight 10 points ahead though and have opened up a gap on the bottom four.

right just 5 points is nothing to be worried but what s going on with the team because question is are they good enough or is it just a question of confidence among the team because when i see the expectation at the start of the year " be in the top 6" i wonder is it reallistic or did TC got the wrong players!??

corbyeire
29/04/2008, 10:52 AM
do you not remember it was top 4 at the start of the close season - then it was top six as players were not coming to united

but i think anyone that watched united play last season knew that this season we would struggle and it would have required 4-5 top quality players in to achieve top of the table status

we were very lucky in the run in and longfords point deduction helped no end

eamo1
29/04/2008, 1:15 PM
I think the players were clueless under T.C about tactics and a gameplan etc, confidence then naturally dropped when we were'nt doing well.If Kenna can get them playing a set system and sort out the defence i believe we will start picking up points and then confidence will improve amoung the players. In saying all of that id still let 6/7 players go in July and try somehow to bring in 6/7(keeper,striker,2 wingers,C.B,R.B).
