and self employed :)

I taught we were better team in the first half after they scored France dominated the game the rest of the way.

But one thing we have too remember was that the heat out there was supposed too have been into 30 degrees the french had massive advantage in that department and were Ireland not missing a couple of players?

I think we are out now as I cant see them getting result against Spain but I think Ireland can beat the Swiss

Is there a semi final or is it just group winners straight through to the final?

The Swiss will be favourites to beat us. We will be doing very well to beat them.

So what are our chances against the Swiss? Three players are likely to come into the team for this match; Dunleavy, Hourihane and Towell.

Well the bookies (http://www.oddschecker.com/football/internationals/u17-european-championship/ireland-u17-v-switzerland-u17/win-market) have us as the outsiders but 11/8 is only the best price on the Swiss. They didn't have the hardest of qualifying groups so it's hard to judge how good they are.

The top 2 go through to a s/f.
That makes a change from previous tournaments Ireland were in.

McCaffrey was regretting the absence of a tough tackling defensive midfield general.

That's why they are called 'holding midfielders', their main role is to lead the team to hold onto a 1 goal lead.

Here we go again. ;) "Hold" back from attack would be what I would have thought. I've heard Benitez refer to Alonso as a holding midfielder and David Moyes refer to Xavi as as holding midfielder and they wouldn't be great defensively. Anyway, I seem to be in off topic mode today.

Unfortunately I'm not minted and not self employed. My holidays do go on football though as does too much of my money :D

Anyway it is very hot here and I have just spent the day by the pool so life is tough following Ireland/ Here\s hoping for 3points tomorrow/

Morrissey was a doubt with a groin injury too.

All off target though. I don't know how we're down as having no shots. There's a few lines of "Borkovic (Switzerland) makes a save" in the text updates.

Looks like the game is up for us lads. 10 minutes left and only one shot to show for our efforts.

Hopefully they can regroup for the last game and take some points with the pressure off them. Fine achievement in qualifying given the quality of opposition that they disposed of.

The match info updates are strictly technical.
According to them, up to the 70th Minute, we were clearly being outstatted.

Now the target is to have the Scots carry home the wooden spoon.

Wasn't it Gunning's desperate attempt at clearing the ball that gifted the French their winning goal?

It was but he also scored the important goals against Greece and Portugal that got us to these finals.

gspain

very disappointing result and performance. Switzerland were the better team on the day but not apatch on the French team we almost matched.

We only played in the last 10 minutes and should have equalised there. Robbie Brady had a free ehader that went over and Satelle missed a sitter right at the death. However we\d been lucky to get to half time level.

We have the best support in the torunament probably about 100 fans. Although I think all bar 3 of us are either related to or friends of the players families.

I saw the France v Spain game also last night and the football was breathtaking.

The 'Irish' Daily Mail??? Do people 'Irish' people actually buy that sh*te, or is it just for British expats and Westtans? Is it just me or does anyone else think it's a bit like Der Sturmer opening up an edition in Tel Aviv. :D:rolleyes:

Young Boys in Green are still giving the ball plenty of welly, no playmaker.
A lot of effort, some good play.
Lets hope the tank doesn't get emptied too early.
Doran is our next Hunt (is that's good?).

Overall report on the tournament??

Only saw the first game and in the first half we matched the French and got a good goal but was on the back foot big time in the second half and i thought really lacked guidance and management because they kept hoofing the ball up field when the sensible thing wouldve been to get the ball down and waste time at the end. Disappointing overall i think, but least they got there, the experience will no doubt do them good.

McCaffrey had good words about the goalie
"Ger (Hanley) is the best keeper here. He made some superb saves. I'd tip him to go on if someone takes a chance with him because of his size. I feel we will hear more about Ger because he never gets fazed."
Is he a bit small as goalkeepers are sized up at that age?

Wanted - tall, dark and strong
"Overall I thought everybody was very brave and positive on the ball, and we showed lots of composure. There is a lot of good talent there, but I think we probably need a big, strong fellow up front. I don't think there is any shame in losing to that team."
A bigger target to aim for?
The big strong fellow up front wouldn't be much use on his own and wouldn't be the first talent on my wish list for that team.
Ormsby in particular & Doran did well against Spain.
Brady had a frustrating tournament (possibly the curse of the commentators expectations), it will be interesting to see how he and some others progress.
