Lads, "There's Only One Red Army" by Eamonn Sweeney. Was he interviewed on the Late Late Show by Gay Byrne when this first came out? When was that? Anyone remember this?

Can't help with the date (mid 90s anyway) but I definitely remember him being interviewed on the Late Late. He told the story about the lad from Africa, amongst other anecdotes.

Internet says book was released in 1997, could have sworn it was earlier. One website describes it as "A fictional memoir of a life led through alcoholism and an obsession with a third-rate football team."

I dispute the word fictional. The other two go hand in hand.

I am sure it was Pat Kenny who interviewed him. I have it on video somewhere. As for the year I would say 1997.

"A fictional memoir of a life led through alcoholism and an obsession with a third-rate football team."

The aboveis all fact! nothing fictional, you need alcohol to watch this level of skill!

He had been doing Kenny Live before that so it's probably that that Eamonn was on

Must have been Kenny Live - can't see Gaybo having stirred himself to talk about the bit o' red. Our Gaybo led a very sheltered life.
