Equal opportunities at Perugia

ITALIAN side Perugia are scouring the globe for the perfect female footballer to play alongside the men in Serie A, and hand the club a world first.

"Within six months we'll have a woman playing in Perugia's red strip," club president Luciano Gaucci said. "Perugia can become the first club on the planet to play a woman with men in the first division."

:)

and he can do it, FIFA rules forbid men playing in women's soccer but not vice versa.

so I'd like to nominate Luciano Gaucci as the Italian Pat Dolan. He can certainly keep his club in the papers.

Sometimes it's weird, as in Perugia's signing of Colonel Gaddafi's son last month. Sometimes it's brilliant, as in their being the first Italian club to sign an asian player when Nakata donned their (to become a multi-million selling) shirt and added four thousand fans to every home game as Perugia became Japan's second most popular honetmoon destination after Rome...seriously.

but isn't this pushing out the boat. without being (intentionally)sexist, could the best female player in the world survive in the Eircom League, let alone Seria A????

Scouring the globe for good players, whether male or female, is equal opportunities.
Scouring the globe for a female footballer is not equal opportunities, but just a publicity stunt.

In fact he could be treading on dangerous ground stating that he is going to employ someone based on sex rather than ability. somewhere, there's a european equal rights lawyer rubbing his hands at the thought

p.s. I agree with you tiktok. if a female player had the ability to compete, it would have happened already.

i knew i left one out. agree that it's just a publicity stunt, but can you imagine supporting a club where the chairman constantly makes you a laughing stock?

Would she have a dressing room to herself?

What position would she be in?

Would the other men help her score?

If she plays in goal do you think the men will try and score on her?

Will they be able to "nut"meg her?

Do you think they could slip one through her legs

Do you think she'll get offended by the ref tossing a coin at her?

This could go on and on and on............
