Equal opportunities at Perugia
ITALIAN side Perugia are scouring the globe for the perfect female footballer to play alongside the men in Serie A, and hand the club a world first.
"Within six months we'll have a woman playing in Perugia's red strip," club president Luciano Gaucci said. "Perugia can become the first club on the planet to play a woman with men in the first division."
:)
and he can do it, FIFA rules forbid men playing in women's soccer but not vice versa.
so I'd like to nominate Luciano Gaucci as the Italian Pat Dolan. He can certainly keep his club in the papers.
Sometimes it's weird, as in Perugia's signing of Colonel Gaddafi's son last month. Sometimes it's brilliant, as in their being the first Italian club to sign an asian player when Nakata donned their (to become a multi-million selling) shirt and added four thousand fans to every home game as Perugia became Japan's second most popular honetmoon destination after Rome...seriously.
but isn't this pushing out the boat. without being (intentionally)sexist, could the best female player in the world survive in the Eircom League, let alone Seria A????
