This joke......
A Somalian arrives in Cork a new immigrant to Ireland.
He stops the first man he sees walking down the street and says, 'Thank you Mr Irishman for letting me in this country, giving me housing, food stamps, free medical care and free education!'
The man says, 'You are mistaken, I am Pakistani.'
The Somali man goes on and encounters another passer-by. 'Thank you for having such a beautiful country here in Ireland !'
This person says, 'I no Irish, me Polish.'
He walks on and stops the next person, shakes his hand and says, 'Thank you for the wonderful things in Ireland !'
This person puts up his hand and says, 'I am from India , I am not Irish!'
Finally, he sees a nice lady and asks, 'Are you Irish?'
She says,' No, I am from Africa !'
Puzzled, he asks her, 'Where are all the Irish people?'
The African lady checks her watch and says ...
'Probably at work!! '
was put up in our notice board at work last friday...and when HR found out about it the notice board had to be taken off the wall and new boards with locks....big shiny fort knocks type locks...where put up to ensure it didn't haappen again.....
A step to far??
Or
Fair game??

I do have a lot to add. I shall start by critiquing the terrible joke.
Why would a Somalian not recognise another African?
How exactly is a Pakistani managing to stay in the country if he's not employed? They're turfing out families who were here with refugee status so I'd imagine a random south asian just hanging about wouldnt last long. I mean, have you even been in hospital? Chances are your expert doctor is Sikh.
Isn't the whole point of anti-Polish jokes that they took our jobs? For something to be devilishly funny, there usually has to be a grain of perceived truth. Theres a reason that theres "paddy Irishman" jokes or blonde jokes. A blonde joke wouldnt be very funny if it centred around her making someone else look stupid.
Meanwhile unemployment for Irish is now growing at its highest rates since the 80s, meaning that no, they probably arent all at work.
I wouldnt be surprised if your "joke" was taken down because it isnt very funny, rather than any PC reasons.

Yes, it's a pretty inane joke.
Shannonman, some offices are pretty casual, and no one would care. Some are not. If it's not your office, I'd suggest you get back to work.
Or maybe contact your union. Whatever you think yourself.

Depends. There are some really artful jokes which lead you along a familiar path and then BAM! Unexpected twist. I suspect you could do this with a blonde joke fairly handy.

I didn't put up or write or condone the joke...i was mearly asking a question..i never suggested it was funny or not funny.....
Personally i think its a rubbish joke but my question wasn't about the quailty of the joke (and thats pretty clear from the title of the thread) it was about the political correctness shown in taking down not only the joke but the board too...

Probably. Maybe the comparison wasn't so great. Can anyone else think of a similar situation to a Polish person coming all the way to quaint little Cork, and then not bothering to work?

On this forum you can't post without giving your opinion. So, do you think its OK to put that up in a workplace?

I'm sure some semi-literate buffoon somewhere has complained that the immigrants don't even bother to learn the language (a la Moe Sizlack).

it was about the political correctness shown in taking down not only the joke but the board too...The moral being, "give them an inch and they take a mile", or "there'll always be one". Given that a repeat offence could see your workplace wind up in the labour, or indeed the high court, I'd say thats "the straw that broke the camels back".
Further clichés by request.

:D great scene. Bloody immigants!
By the way, it seems very likely that this joke has American origins. Replace Pole with Mexican, African with Arab and take into account the perception of Pakistani cab drivers over there and it makes a modicum of sense.

It would go down fantastically in a UKIP office, or a Veritas office, or those cheery lads down at Republican Sinn Fein (http://www.rsf.ie/)

Rushing, haven't time to read down through, but generally if you pull the plug on it, let it sit quietly for a little while, then get it back up and running again, and generally there'll be no problems, at least for a few weeks...;)

And be especially careful if there's a 'Made in France' tag on it.
