Watching MNS a friend of mine asked who has the best pitch in Ireland (this was after they said Glenmalure was the best in the country) which I think no one would argue about.
But what do people think is the best pitch in LOI now, i havent been to every ground in Ireland so Im not qualified to comment.

Ah c'mon, its a steaming pile a lot of the time, granted that always seems to be after rain and looks like a dirt bike derby had taken place but aren't you a bit biased?

Does it not look a bit barren at times. I think it doesn't look like its good to play on, under foot i mean.

Belfield Park was always good, despite what the Corkies would say.

Has to be Terryland - you can't beat a good fertilister programme for a lush surface, and you should see the sh*te we are putting on it every second week

Ironically, Cork brought a truck load of sh!te last week too. Despite a 3 - 1 win, they are easily the poorest side to beat us this season

Excellent, if we have a score line like that each week when playing poor then i'm delighted with that.
Hyland Park, is that gone now or is there any club playing there.

On the new stand side I think it looked a bit more scuffed than usual for this time of year but then again it's already had a fair few matches on it due to the qualifying for the European championships being played there.
Nearly always in pristine condition though.

On the topic of pitches -interesting article on extra time.ie about poor pitches, http://extratime.ie/newsdesk/articles/241/ , pasted below also
Heading into Thursday nights game against Dundalk, Waterford are joint leaders of the First Division. Nobody has scored more goals than them, and nobody has conceded fewer - indeed along with Dundalk they are the only unbeaten team in the league. The majority of Waterford fans are happy with their sides start to the season and few if any have any complaints. Manager Gareth Cronin on the other hand . . . .
Cronin got a name for himself last season among local fans as someone who is very fond of making excuses and complaining about something. This year he seems to have turned his attentions to having something to say about the pitch his team has, or is expected to play on. In short he has so far found fault with every away pitch his side has had to play on.
Waterford opened their league campaign this season against local rivals Wexford Youths. Having visited Ferrycarrig twice before the start of the season for pre-season friendlies I was of the opinion that the set up that Mick Wallace had put in place was top class - and importantly the playing surface on both pitches was of a pretty high standard. Cronin however found something wrong, as he went on to tell the clubs official website - "The one thing that surprised me was the size of the pitch – it is massive and we'll have to deal with that". Obviously all pitches are not identical in size however there are certain minimum and maximum measurements that have to be adhered to. For Cronin to use this as an obstacle his side must overcome borders on the ridiculous. Waterford somehow went on to come to terms with the massive pitch and record a two one win.
For their next away trip Waterford made their way to the Midlands to face Athlone. The Blues drew nil nil and Cronin had the following to say when he spoke to extratime.ie "Anyone who was in Athlone last week will know that it was a cesspit of a pitch to play on and if you are going to complain about drawing in Athlone then I don't think you know much about football". Cronin also told Waterford-united.ie - " The conditions were awful you know, the wind was shocking and it made a bit of a lottery of the game".
An embarrassing defeat to a Kerry League representative side followed in the first round of the eircom league cup. "The Kerry game was embarrassing but if you were down there and saw the conditions and the fact that it went to penalties, then you'd know it was a nonsense game although it still hurts to lose there." To make matters worse Cronin had fielded a strong line up. Quite what he means by it being a nonsense game remains to be seen - but once again the conditions seemingly played a big part.
Thursday night sees the top of the table clash at Oriel and both sides will have intentions of bagging the three points that are on offer. However if Waterford are to win at Oriel then they will have to overcome what Cronin sees as a big disadvantage - "We are in the 21st century and we are in summer football so there is no need for artificial pitches in the eircom league. It is a definite advantage for Dundalk. They train on it all the time, the play on it all the time, there is a different bounce on the ball and the pace of the game is different. That's not to make excuses because we are more than capable of going up there and winning on Thursday night"
Although he tries to claim otherwise his comments and complaints about the artificial pitch amount to nothing but making excuses.
World Cup and European Championships qualifying games have been played on artificial surfaces - as have UEFA Cup games. Its exactly because we are in the 21st century that artificial surfaces are going to become more common and acceptable. Scientific advances have ensured the quality of these surfaces is tantamount and sometimes even better than natural grass. Some medical studies have even shown that the chances of players picking up injuries are reduced.
This will actually be the second occasion this season that Waterford have had a game on such a surface. Galway defeated them by three goals to one on the new astro turf at Blarney United last February.
What makes Cronins diatribes all the more amusing is that the surface at the RSC is appalling. For many years it has been poor but this season surely sees it at its worst. Even the FAI have admitted that its a problem and are in fact meeting with Waterford City Council in the near future with a view to finding a solution.
Already this season two games have had to be postponed, and as detailed Cronin hasnt been happy with where his side have had to play - yet according to the man himself there is no need for artificial pitches in the eircom league.

Has to be Ferrycarrig Park. The pitch was laid years before we entered the league and no one was even allowed walk on it. Great drainage and a very true bounce. It even holds up well to Patsy's sliding tackles

Obviously you haven't seen the surface in about 4 or 5 years...
It's is always in great nick, it is easily in the top 2 in the league. The one that's on par with it is Galway. The rest of the pitch's are just shocking, for so called bigger clubs to have such bad playing surfaces is a joke! Worst ive seen ov er the last few years would be the RSC or the Showgrounds.

From what I have seen it would have to be Wexford's home ground. Seen enough of it last season to be a fair judge of it.
Heard Galways is top class too. Cant comment havnt seen it in a few years.

Ramblers is pitch is good but this year it seems to have gone downhill in the pitch stakes.
IMO the winner would be either Wexford or Galway. Looking at Setanta there Saint Patricks pich looks good (i'll have a closer inspection Friday). Wexford is the best i've seen so far.

I was on it and it definitely was barren, last season i'll admit. Only going on what i've seen so far. Equal with most pitches in the league isn't a ringing endorsement to be fair.

I didnt say its equal with most pitches did i ? I said its equal to " any " pitch in the leauge. i.e pick the best pitch in your opinion and utd parks pitch would be at least its equal or better imho .

It was terrible last year.. was down there twice.. bobbley and hilly - like a big basket of hard boiled eggs with a green cloth over it.

Haha. The fact the entire pitch is a hill would be the reason there.
Terryland and Dalymount get the nod from me.

The Brandywell certainly gets the prize for most disimproved pitch.
If we were having this conversation 5 or 10 years ago it would've been the equal of any, unfortunately now its a mess.

The pitch is in bad nick at the moment due to the amount of underage internationals played on it during the worst of the weather. We do not have the luxury of some clubs where since they don't own their ground have no weekly overheads. It costs us approx 80k a year to maintain the ground even if we don't open it for a match.
We have spent the guts of 10k on the pitch since the start of the season from what I have heard and it will be one of the best when the weather allows growth.

not true heard ye spent 0 on it since last year it was in bad state all winter and before the international games it turned to a quagmire during games was recently spiked and seeded which would cost about 2k

I don't know what went on last season as it was a disaster all over but as for being in a bad state all winter when Cobh played here for the last match of the season it was 100%
About 6k spent on main pitch over the last 4 weeks including man power, seed, fetiliser, verti draining materials and then we have the training area as well which is being done . It is due to be sanded again in the next few weeks as well
They are out fertilising it this week again as it can rest before the Dundalk game.
The 80k I mentioned is the total running costs of the ground
