View Full Version : Most out of date eL website

The web's no longer young, and it's littered with the detritus of sites founded with the best of intentions but left suspended in amber. Those which still exist are fascinating living relics offering snapshots in time; eL-related sites even more so, in that the turnover of players and pace of events in Irish football is such that they seem prehistoric.

Check out this Finn Harps Supporters' Club effort, last updated 1999: http://www.iol.ie/~harps/

If you're ever stuck for a laugh, the semi-literate, blatantly homo-erotic "banter" between Bohs casuals and Shamrock Rovers hooligans on this guestbook dating from the turn of the 21st century will keep you chuckling for hours. I wonder what those involved make of their contributions now? http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Stadium/3592/geobook.html

Anyone got any more examples, especially ones which pre-date these?

Waterford United - http://www.tubbritt.net/

(doesn't outdate your links but the headline on the home page "Jimmy looks towards Europe" is good for a small giggle).

To be fair we had just come up and got spanked by Shels on the first day of the season. We then went on to beat Drogs (3-1 away), St. Pats (4-2 home) and UCD (2-1 away) so we were allowed to dream.

Tubby's site was excellent when he did keep it up to date.

Pity, Stephen; do check it out when it's available again, it's hilarious stuff (esp. both sides trying to out-barstool-republican one another.)

Good selection of links here: http://www.esatclear.ie/~supersaints/nlsites.htm (I'm sure a lot of the dead links could be retrieved via archive.org.)

Sample news stories from various sites:

• Kenny can become one of the best - Dolan
Ahead of this evening's intriguing Premier Division clash between St Patrick's Athletic and Longford Town, Saints boss Pat Dolan is full of admiration for his opposite number and former colleague, Stephen Kenny.

Rovers are top of the league after beating Dundalk by 2-0. The goals were scored by Marcus Hallows and Conor O'Grady.

14/11/00: Barry Wood has rejoined Waterford United in fairly dramatic circumstances this past week.
Following on from Michael Devine's shock departure to Cork City for a rumoured 25,000 pay-out, striker Paul Richardson left the Blues in the lurch by deciding to return to England, at what appears to be extremely short notice.

Rumours of other signings have also been flying around Phibsboro', with Glen Ferguson of Linfield being mentioned.

Trevor Vaughan has rejoined Drogheda in order to help them out of their rough patch of results.

To be fair to the Athlone one above, it wasn't given up on. There was a widespread attack on eircom around the time and I got locked out of the site. It gradually developed into this now defunct site. :) www.athlonetownfc.com.
