Reminded about this from the fact that Bojan was the first player born in the 90's to score in the Champion's League.
Given we decided at the time Terry Dixon was called up that Roy Keane was the first 70's born player to play for us (is this true by the way, he wasnt capped until 1991?) and Robbie Keane was the first 80's born player then it should be a good omen to be the first 90's born player. Anyway Scannell was born in 1990 and is in the big squad. Is he going to win the race or will it be McCarthy, cant think of anyone else at the moment.

Was thinking the same thing myself when i saw Scannell has been called up. He wasnt even born when Ireland played in the 1990 world cup! Really makes you feel old!

Jeff Kenna born 27th August 1970 - debut v Portugal in April 1995
Phil Babb born 30th November 1970 - debut v Russia in March 1994
Jason McAteer born 18th June 1971 - debut v Russia in May 1994
Kenny Cunningham born 26th June 1971 - debut v Czech Republic in April 1996

Pat Scully is significantly less of a good omen than Roy. By the way the others didnt get capped before Roy.

Sorry to be boring but I'm trying to work out who our youngest cap of all time is? (Robbie?) Have we had any 17 year olds play for us?

I reckon the 5 youngest players ever to be capped for us are;
Robbie Keane - 17 yrs 8 months in 1998
Gary Waddock - 18 yrs 1 month in 1980
Aiden McGeady - 18 yrs 2 months in 2004
Pat Scully - 18 yrs 4 months in 1988
David O'Leary - 18 yrs 4 months in 1976

So Jamie McCarthy has until August to beat the record

Not in the 40 is he?. Now if Scannell played against either Serbia or Colombia, I reckon he would beat Robbie by a week or so.

Jimmy Holmes is our youngest ever international. He was 17 years 6 months when he played against Austria in the early 70's.
Robbie however is our youngest goalscorer.

Good spot, had forgotten about Jimmy Holmes. He came on as a sub for Don Givens for the last 15 minutes in the game against Austria in Dalymount on 30th May 1971 even though he had never played for Coventry's first team. Got his second cap a year later.
