View Full Version : Six degrees of Wikipedia

I guess most people have heard the term "six degrees of separation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_degrees)", from which the game "six degrees of Kevin Bacon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_Degrees_of_Kevin_Bacon)" was created.
A friend and I have been playing a game recently which we've called "six degrees of Wikipedia".
The idea is that we choose 2 unrelated things, and try to go from one to the other using only the links provided on wikipedia pages. The person who gets there using the lower number of links wins the game.
some examples -
Roy Keane to Mick McCarthy - one link. (The link to McCarthy's page is on Keane's page)
Limerick 37 to AC Milan - 3 links. football - Serie A - AC Milan.
Pasta to Aeroplane - 3 links. Hong Hong - Boeing - Aeroplane.
The rules are simple-
You can only use links from the text on the Wikipedia page.
Once you click on a link, you can't go back if you realise it didn't take you where you want to go.
If you are redirected to a page, that only counts as one link.
Right now, the competition is to connect ice cream to the moon in the shortest number of links possible.
Wanna play?

That was harder than I thought. I think I might be a bit too simple. My first attempt and logic lead me to believe that I could get at it through baked Alaska but no.

I could be wrong actually, maybe it is a competition, its 1:27 in the AM forgive me
Journalist --> Sports journalism --> Cricket --> Australian rules football --> Wooden spoon (award) <--- (does that count?)
if not
Journalist --> Sports journalism --> Cricket --> Australian rules football --> Wooden spoon (award) --> Wooden spoon
David Connolly to Cheick Oumar Dabo (my other favorite player :)), if thats easy do either of them to Adam Svoboda (my name, but the Czech hockey goalie...probably too hard)
How do we be sure no one edits Wikipedia to make it easier on themselves?

Didn't actually think about that; I assumed it was transmutative, but of course that's not necessarily true. As, in fact, I pointed out in my own post!
I did it that way obviously to start at the one I knew less about and home in on the one I knew more about.
