Vital game,we really need a win in this one, moore even said it on MNS we need a win just to get our season up and running. Hopefully the weather is good too because when there was less rain before the bohs game the pitch wasn't as bad and also bad weather scares away sunshiners. I hope rovers can win with any scoreline,it would be nice to see boco get on the scoresheet too.

think its going to be a really tough game, Cobh will be confident after a good result against Cork and our lads might be feeling a bit of pressure after the criticism of ucd game, am going for a close Rovers win 2-1

Should the Rovers not bull of the desired result will you be booing because of the performace or the fact that you got stung?

If we lose im hardly going to boo them off because i lost my bet.

In all the years i've been going to the showgies i dont think i've ever boo'ed the team off the pitch, its pointless & wont get you anywhere except make the players feel worse then they are feeling for losing.

There seemed to be more interest in ps2 football and liverpool legends than the beloved sligo rovers on this forum for the last week.
I hate to be negative but our manager and players would need to put 3 points on the board this weekend. no offence to cobh ramblers but this is the type of game we were winning fairly comfortably until the last 10 games of last season.
boco has flattered to decieve so far
faz and judge would want to pull their fingers out.
i feel the decision to take off anto murphy in the bohs game was hard to understand because his throws were causing pandemonium in the bohs defence.
before anyone says that you cant leave a player on for his throws alone , it was at the time our most potent weapon.
cookie(who i greatly admire as a person ) but i feel that he is at times very lenient on players who are not giving 100% eg taking off raf and putting on doherty while leaving faz and judge to sulk when things are not going their way.

i like to think that paul cook will be given every support for the full season and that he is the man to lead us to great glories

this weekends result is huge because a win will put us into mid table and an acceptable start but a loss or draw will define our season as a relegation struggle

people are already getting on judges back and he's only started once. he played well when he came on against drogs and bohs, scored a hat-trick in the cup and is putting in the effort on his own with extra training.

judge is the best striker we have . what is he doing on the bench feo. its no good putting in extra training and not giving his all in matches. would cookie not play him if he thought his attitude was right.
there were times last year when he was unstoppable and i hope he refinds that form soon because we are going to struggle for goals if he doesnt.

the thing is he does put in effort, they all do. different types of players play differently, he wont go into many challenges, hes not like that i know it may sound wrong to some people but theres players like that, ronaldo dosnt like going into tackles either. its just their way of playing, ya maybe their not hard enough like but thats just the way it is. i hate going into tackles when iim playing nd theres players liken that on every team. he's brilliant on the ball and a threat for any defence

Agree with this. In all honesty we need to be beating Cobh. After the first 3 tough games and a poor run out against UCD, this has to represent a proper chance of getting the win. If we dont win, alot of questions will need to be asked - Anything less than 3 points from this fixture is not good enough.

If we dont win, alot of questions will need to be asked.

Hold on, hold on lads.

Back up the pony and trap, have you been aware of the standard of the teams we’ve played in the opening three games?

The teams first competitive game and bar the seven minutes where we completely lost shape, we put in quite a good performance. (Not to mention the ****-up prior to kick-off). Granted, not a good result, but not the sort of performance you could be to critical of all things considered.

Game two, and you couldn’t complain about the result. Drogs haven’t had the greatest start but they will be there or there about at the business end of the season.

We were desperately unlucky against Bohs. If we had any luck, Almedia’s goal would have been allowed and we may have won the game.

As for the game against UCD; yes it was poor. The management acknowledged the performance was not up to scratch.

So we’ve had one bad performance this year, not including the Pat’s game because the opposition has a cohesion which could not be expected from Rovers.

So basically your insinuating “that serious questions” need to be asked should we have two poor games. If Almedia’s goal stood and we won that game, I’d imagine our start to the season wouldn’t have been all that bad.

Give me a break and get of Cook’s back and support the team.

What serious questions need to be asked?????

Your quick to forget what he did last season.

Good result. NOt the best performance of all time, but excellent none the less.

Conor, Seamie and Raff all once again outstanding. BUtler is getting more and more into it. Rommy is improving every game and delighted for him to score tonight! Hopefully a few more to come! Roll on 3 points in the Brandywell...

On another note, nice to see the wee piece in the programme: "in a clash of two of foot.ie's most well known Sligo Rovers posters Feo took on Fitzo with Feo winning 1-0 courtesy of an own goal which is impressive in it's own rght as it's hard to do in FIFA".

THanks for the name check Keith, but was the own goal bit necessary:D;)

Moore broke his fingure just before kick-off.

Butler was brought to hospital with concussion following a clash of heads.

Not a great performance but tbh i couldn't care,we needed a win to get the confidence going and it was nice to see rommy score as well. I really thought we took the foot of the pedal in the 2nd half for about 20 mins(I know the wind was a factor). Feeney made a nuisance of himself and seamie was great as usual. I was delighted with judge he tried hard and won a few headers that somebody should have gotten on the end of and he nearly scored a lovely goal. I hate that when faz or judge make a slight mistake everybody goes OTT. However I'm not sure about Cash. I know we probably shouldn't be criticizing players but his touch was poor tonight. There definitely is a good player in him(he isn't a manson!!) but he just needs a bit of confidence. Hopefully butler and moore will be fit for derry and 6 points out of the next 9 should be the target.

A big improvement is needed before we even consider taking any points in the Brandysmell. That improvement starts by taking Ventre out of the middle of the park. His partnership with O'Grady leaves us void of any creativeness. Neither player is capable of controlling the game, so one of them has to go.

Cobh's goal came from us going asleep on a free kick allowing their two players to play the ball to one another and get a decent cross in. I thought we were then worth our 2-1 lead at half time, but Cobh bossed the second half. I still think we are looking like a 45 minute team.

Thought we made hard work of winning last night. Raf and Seamie outstanding again. Cash hasn't been the same since his injury layoff. before he got injured he was really looking the part. Surprised that Anto Murphy for a defender / midfielder doesn't get more tackles in, at it again last night pulling out of challenges.

Feeney was good last night, put himself about last night but he is not a striker. Cook starting him there last night was wrong. Alright sticking him there when you are looking to get something out of the game in the last few minutes. Judge should be starting hasnt been giving much of a chance this season.

Similar to last week insofar as; we were bad, the opposition were worse and I have no words (that I can type here) to describe the ref. It was like a move straight from the WWF when Coleman was fouled in the box in the first half but the ref saw nothing wrong with the push.

I hope Cookie gave them the hair dryer treatment after the game cos that performance was not good enough, there's a few passengers in our squad and it's only early in the season yet.

good to get the 3 points. not a great game but the night that was in it was a factor. i think we should all keep supporting the team and the manager. 4 points from the last 2 games is a decent return. i see where cookie was very upset about comments in some of the local papers last week. weekender especially (would that be rory's article ? i wonder) although rory did do the interview after the game last night. ithought crowd was a tad dissapointing about 1200. but then again it was a very cold night. looking forward to derry game next week if the weather is fairly good (no wind and cold) i feel we can acquit ourselves well.

Damage Limitation - that's all we can expect from the Derry trip on Friday next.
Last night's second half performance was awful and that's putting it mildly.
The first half with the wind to our backs and playing into the graveyard end we played very well. I had expected more of the same for the second half but unfortunately whatever was said at the break didn't work. Loosing Butler and the reshuffle that caused obviousily didn't help matters. Ralf was doing very well down the left in the first but the switch to left full tamed him somewhat. Murphy is taking time, which can be expected, to settle in and I really expect him to improve. I never like when we lose the toss and the opposition chose to play into the graveyard in the second half but maybe that's just me. Boco made hard work of his goal but now that it has come hopefully the gates will open up for him. It certainly showed in his celebrations that the weight has been lifted now that he has got off the mark. I thought Steve Feeney did well in the first half but wasn't surprised when he was replaced in the second. I like Judgie but I feel he has a lot of things going on in his head and his concentration suffers because of this. He lacks confidence and I think being left on the bench is hurting him big time. He'll have to learn to use the opportunity of getting on to his advantage and give his all. Goals will come through him of that I have no doubt. Brian Cash is another lad that lacks a wee bit in confidence. This lad has ability in abundance and it definitely will come out of him of that I have no doubt. I find it very difficult and frustrating to comprehind the different levels of our displays in the one game. I think all the excuses in the world will not explain why we can't kill teams off when we are on top.
On a more sober note. I'm disappointed in Cookie's comments towards the local media. I can see where he's coming from but I feel that's not the way to deal with it. I realise he's 100% behind his players but sometimes you have to call a spade a spade. It's a tough league and there will be more downs than ups I fear but as long as we can shake ourselves down after a bad performance and go out and try harder then there will be no complaints from the majority of the loyal supporters.
Just to finish I'd like to say a huge well done to the 'real supporters' last night the noise levels were once again deafening at times. Keep it up lads yer doing great work!

DocRovers
06/04/2008, 7:37 PM
The reason we were outplayed in the second half was that our central midfield was over-run. Cobh were much stronger & quicker to the 2nd ball. I felt Conor struggled as the game went on, therefore the ball kept getting lamped right back at us. Judgie did hold it up & link the play when he came on & must be close to starting soon. Almeida & Seamie were excellent. On a depressing note it was a small crowd.
