Local Hotel booked already!Good to hear, if true;). It's been talked about for ages now, glad it's finally happening.

meh. I'm not too pushed about this.I'm not a Liverpool fan either but this should be a good money maker for the club so I'm happy. Although, not sure 'Liverpool' will be when they see the pitch:)

True, any bit of dosh at all for the club is brillant.

And it can't exactly do the pitch any harm.

should get the barstoolers out in force. could sell 5,000+ for that, although alot of that wont go towards the club. accom. etc.

It's a pity it takes wheeling out a load of fat mouldy oldies, but anything that exploits the barstoolers and separates them from their dosh is fine by me.

growsport.com are asking a group of full-time footballing professionals to play against a group of retired wrinkly old has beens. Would you like to play a pointless 90 mins in the Showgrounds of all places? The lads should be kept focused on playing the next valuable game, and not some Zimmerframe United squad.

it wont be the rovers team that plays them if this goes ahead!
i think it will be a great thing for the club, we could make an event of it, have the game itself earlier than usual and then have something like the 1977 anniversary that was held at the end of last season, it'd be a good money spinner, think of all the liverpool fans in sligo alone that would love to be in the same room as the legends of the 80's and early 90's. and then non liverpool fans would love to be there aswell. it'd be very good imo to do this, and would be succesful!

All the Liverpool fans in Sligo could fill the Showgrounds twice over:rolleyes:

Assume it will be the players pre 1990 as they haven't done much since to be considering legends.

it would be good to get them if its a big moneyspinner and maybe the manyoo fans can ask the pool players whats it like to win the CL regularly and if all the sligo manyoo supporters turn up then it would need old trafford to house them!

For my money rovers circa 1977 were a better team just never got the publicity! although we are mentioned in the same breath as Argentina in "SHOOT!" magazine when we became champs (xlent picture - every rovers fan should have a copy!)

93/94 wasn't a successful season then. You have been away from the sticks too long mate.

I think he was referring to Liverpool, thus opening up a boring Pool Vs Utd debate, which is best kept for a different forum.

Point taken.
What I hate and can't comprehend is what people here call the barstoolers (I love it) how they have an undivided love for a club they have absolutely no connection with. Our grass roots is where we were brought up. It's where we have come from, it's where we belong. If only these people would appreciate that then as a football club SRFC would be a stronger force. The Eircom League of Ireland would be a much better league and they wouldn't have to be looking over the water for ways to live a dream.
