Hi all from mainland england, stanleyland to be exact :D

Have been keeping an eye on you over there since you have so many of our ex players now on your books and I'm hoping they are doing a good job for you!

Accrington Stanley Official Supporters Club are looking to organise a trip over to your parts (well I am on their behalf) and wondered what you thought of the idea of a stanley contingency decending on you for the sligo v cork match on 2nd Aug.

Could do with ideas of places to stay, eat etc... no ideas on numbers as yet, but we will also be bringing a camera crew with us too as we are currently being filmed by Granada tv for a documentary due to be broadcast in October..

So any thoughts on our trip will be welcome

Cork at home should be a good game too. As for places to stay, Rovers have a sponsorship deal with the Glasshouse (http://www.theglasshouse.ie/) in Sligo Town so maybe if your supporters group contacted the club they might be able to do some sort of deal if ye have plenty of numbers coming. Obviously I'm only guessing here, no idea if they can or not but worth a shot, if not, there's plenty of other options around.

You will all be welcomed anyway, join us in Mooney's pub across the road from the Showgrounds for some pre/post match pints;).

EDIT: Looking forward to the return trip:p

Aer Arann fly direct from Manchester to Sligo if that's any help. As for accommodation; Sligo has great hotels and B and Bs

What's with so many ex AC players signing for Sligo BTW?

I have emailed the club asking for any assistance... and I am sure if we can get plenty of our supporter's footy team to come too then we could organise a match between both clubs...think I will give that one a miss though, cos I'm a lady :D But I'll happily join in the food and drink :p

If you are a lady - and I'm sure you are - you should steer well clear of the gang on this message board. I'll put you in touch with Aine - Our Lady of Sligo - and she will ensure that you have a highly cultural visit to The Yeats Country and that you will not be tempted to enter any of our flesh pots such as Toffs, Envy or Shoot the Crows.
Seriously, this is a great idea and should lead to a twinning of the clubs, at least at supporter level. Don't leave booking accomodation too long as August is peak tourist time in the region. A mate of mine worked for a while in Accrington forty years ago and it's still the first result he looks for every week.
As for the Cork match, we can guarantee you....
1. Rovers will win.
2. There will be a least one sending off.
3. Some of the sideline staff will be sent to the stand.
4. The referee will be escorted off the field at end of game.
5. No. 2170 will win the half time raffle.

Hey a silly question is one that is never asked :D

Some of you may have seen the footy DVD brought out by Ricky Tomlinson, well that was filmed at stanley and one of the cameramen involved works for Granada TV. They were having a brainstorming meeting about ideas on future projects and the same cameraman suggested Stanley due to the friendliness of the club, the heavy involvement of fans and of course the history surrounding the club (Accrington were the founder members of the football league)... so that is how the idea was born.

The Official supporters club also applied for and received a lottery heritage grant for £48,000 to build an exhibition all about stanley and we are working hard on doing that now and that will be happening in July/Aug 08.

And with planning this trip too, you could say I am just a little bit busy :p

Here is a list of players that have not been offered a new contract at Stanley for the new season. I have a feeling Cook might want some of them on board :D

Graham Branch, David Brown, Martin Fearon, Jay Harris, Mark King, David Mannix, Lee McEvilly, Leighton McGivern, Mark Roberts, Sean Webb and Shaun Whalley

We've done pretty okay out of them so far, anyway.
And haven't you more pressing things to be worrying about, such as your title "defence"?

He's a fat player who finds it difficult to run. Scored a peach free kick against the Brewers at the weekend though.
