City vs Drogs

Have to say i'm very impressed with City in the first half in the Setanta Cup. I'd say 60-70% of the play is in Drogs half, City very good going forward, some great chances. Drogs slow to get forward which is strange. Afraid of the counter attack i suppose, cant blame them i suppose.

Drogs had two chances, poxy goal mouth scrambles type efforts. Darragh Ryan took it of the toe of Zayed so he didn't even get a look in for the final ball. City really should have put the chance away half way through the half, they completely sliced them apart with three on to put it away with a completely open left hand side of the goal, keeper hadn't a chance.

Great game, City played very well imo. Darragh Ryan was outstanding, Horgan was solid first game back. Georgie got man of the match, hard to call but he did do very well on the wing and put in a few sweet crosses. Flynnie / Healy should have put their chance away and Kearney while he did very with the keeper stranded again should have done better.

Drogs didn't have one clear cut chance from what i could see.

Would have to disagree with you on when you say it was a "great game". Found it hard to sit through it all myself, even though I'm "supporting" Cork in this years Premier. Just lacked a bit of spark really, but Cork were definately the better team of the 2 and probably should have won it. O'Flynn and Kearney both guilty of terrible misses.

Also have to disagree with you about Darragh Ryan having a good game. Yes he did well to block Zayed from about 5 yards in the first half, but every time he got the ball he just hoofed it. Don't remember him looking to play it to someone's feet.

I dunno man, a good few little dinks and passes short range. He crossed it from our half across the park to Georgie a good few times, to his feet.

Thought Drogs were extremely negative. They have the best wingers in the league but don't use them and they have 2 tall forwards and never get any crosses in. Cahill looks poor as a player now too, Stuart Byrne is out of position but the new black lad up front did very well. He was playing on the half way line though and never got one decent cross. Also, Drogs left back is one of the worst players Ive seen yet in the league. He wouldn't make most 1st division sides.

For Cork, O'Callaghan was out of position. Played very poor. Tried all sorts of tricks for no reason. He seems to be even more aragont that before he left and Im not surprised that he failed to make it in England. O'Flynn looks like another has been and Mooney is frustrated by the lack of creativity from the wings.

Felix Healy was right to call Doolan a useless manager.

Have to agree with De Town Face.
I thought it was a dire match altogether.

City were almost as unadventurous as Drogs and I reckon George has to be pushed up front to get the most out of him.

I was disappointed again in Drogs play.
They hold on to the ball enough to suggest that they could play much better football but the chances won't come against the top teams without a bit of intuition this year imo.
They'd be far more formidable if they had one McCourt/ Georgie type player. They should have held onto Fahey although Robinson is class down the wing.

With Citys players, we should be much more inventive and were lucky again tonight not to go down to a cast-iron spotter.
Healy, Flynn and Kearney missed good chances and surely that will come good.

O'Flynn had a good game. H?e looked very enthusiastic.

I'd say you'd be hard-pushed to find others who thought Ibrahim was anyway useful. He managed to hold on to the ball a bit more in the second half but his distribution is awful for any LOI premier division player.
Cahill is certainly a fading star alright but to be fair he's had a good run of it . . . . . . the judas *******.

Ibrahim is big and holds up well, but is that it? His passing was poor, at times he left it short and his target never got a look in. For a guy of that height we didn't see one header, i know there was nothing coming from crosses but he didn't head it one, not even from a corner :eek:

Was worth waiting for Foolins interview post match. He said again that he expected standards to drop this season because of competitive league. One question though what was your excuse last year??? :rolleyes: :eek:

City dominated possession only created two chances all game. We need to swop Healy & O'Callaghan & learn how to break down teams like Bray & Drogs who park the bus in front of their goal.

FROM A NEUTRAL POINT OF VIEW:
George O'Callaghan needs a pair of balls, some muscles and also has to learn how to pass the ball eircom league style.
He still thinks he's in the Championship and he needs to be braver.
Is there a reason he does'nt jump for headers?

Cillian Lordan didn't pass the ball once all night. He just stood there and hoofed it back to Graham Gartland.

Daragh Ryan is a total mixed bag. More bad than good there IMO.

John O'Flynn. Well John O'Flynn didn't do much, as ever.

Dave Mooney surprised me. I thought he was better.

The rest are all quality players. Joe Gamble, Colin Healy and Dan Murray are too good for the league never mind too good for Cork City. If things keep going the way they are at City then I can see the 3 lads leaving for a new start quite soon.

A bit too soon to pass judgement on the team but hopefully will click for local derby ;)

Gamble wasn't at his best tonight but still best player. He has actually improved since we won the league & too good for the league. He almost never loses possession. Would easily slot into solid Championship side. Pity he can't shoot from distance.

I think Cork are pretty sure to beat Derry on Friday, by 2 goals I think. The Cork defense looked good last night. They got 2 great chances againsy Drogs, which is all yopu normally get against Drogs, and O'Flynn and Kearney ballsed them up. As poor as Beehan is he would have finished both of those chances

In fairness to Flynny he was our best striker last night, and I'd still rate him as one of the best players in the league on his day. It was his first 90 minutes in a while, he's just back from treatment... again. The ball that fell to him had been missed by two other players and fell behind him, clearly wasn't ready for it. All the same, you'd expect that with a few more games under his belt, he'd had stuck it.

Anyone who saw O'Flynn in Galway last year would not be saying "didn't do much, as ever".

city could have won it alright with their chances, but drogs should have got a penalty as gamble didnt even go for the ball. liam kearney spend the game falling on the ground, pathetic. i think drogs played for and got the draw. great save by devine also at the end, tats twice in a few days hes saved city from conceding late goals.
