Omagh Town crashed out of the Inter-Toto Cup in spectacular style following this comprehensive defeat at the hands of Shakhtyor Soligorsk in a game played at The Brandywell.
Trailing by just one goal from the first leg Roy McCreadie's side harboured high hopes of progressing to the next stage only to be rocked by a second minute opener from Andrei Liavonchyk courtesy of some excellent approach play by Tsimafei Kalachou.

The Belarussian side extended their lead on four minutes when Raman Trapachkin side stepped Gavin Cullen to present Siarhei Nikifarenka with an open goal.

Number three arrived on 25 minutes when Kalachou knocked home a Vadzim Skrypchanka ball while he supplied the telling ball for Anatoli Tsikhanchyk to add a fourth on 28 minutes.

Omagh began to find their feet towards the end of the first half.

Eamonn Kavanagh struck the woodwork on 37 minutes while, four minutes later, Ivan Sproule burst through the visiting defence to grab a consolation goal.

However Shakhtyor added a fifth on 52 minutes through Alexander Novik although Trapachkin, who supplied the cross, did look suspiciously offside while Siarohin headed a sixth not long after.

They completed the rout 21 minutes from time with Novik's second of the game, again from a Trapachkin cross.

Perhaps a team like Omagh shouldn't be competing in Europe. This is further justification for an All-Ireland League where only top Irish teams would play in Europe. If they won an All-Ireland League or finished in the top 3 or 4 spots then they's have to be a good team and then wouldn't get hammered in Europe.

So we can have teams like Shelbourne losing 1-0 at home to Hibs of Malta who'd never even got an away draw before in Europe.

Lets get our own house in order before slagging off Omagh or anyone else. We've had our own hammerings too down the years - 12-0 & 10-0 come to mind.
