Connacht v Leinster Match

I know this has nothing to do on a football site but I am just wondering about what happened in the Sportsground in Galway yesterday. In the first half Contepomi(sorry about the spelling) took a penalty which went over the posts and over an imaginary line between the posts but a gust of wind made the ball come back and landed in front of the posts. Leinster got 3 points and this could have won the game for them as the score was 10-16 to leinster and connacht decided to go to lineouts in the final minutes when a penalty would have drawn it. What is the official rule on the penalty?:confused:

What is the official rule on the penalty?:confused:The ref applied the rule correctly as far as I understand. It's the same as if the ball goes over the line in football and is cleared away.
