ya starting off id go for a vindaloo, its probably the best one to break you. Just a bit of advice though, be sure to have milk with you or something basic (base sp?! ) as water is no good for hot food.

tikka masala if you like it mild, jalfrazi if you like it hot, if you do get jalfrezi mix in some yoghurt, it helps with the burning mouth sensation :)

Milk's always a good idea for anything spicy, it coats your tongue, and stops the oils in the food from lodging there

If you like chicken try a chicken rogan josh, only mildly spicy, but packed with flavour. If you like lamb try a lamb passanda, creamy and mild and not as overpoweringly flavoured as the coconutty korma can be. And get a few onion bhajees for starters, one of the best things ever invented. :)

A rough guide to how to recognise how hot the dishes are

Mild spice-Korma,Masala dishes..
Medium spice-Rogan Josh,Bhuna dishes.
Hot/Cremation spice-Vindaloo,Madras,Phall dishes.

Try some Keema nan (bread with minced lamb) with your meal.

We usually get a few different starters/side dishes and share a main course. It's a handy way to try different things. Bhajees of course, but I'd also recommend pakoras and samosas.

Aloo Saag (or Saag Aloo) has to be the nicest food on the planet. Its a side dish made with spinnach and potato. Not spicy but flavourful. Have to say though my homemade one is better than my local indian's but not as good as some other Indian restuarants have had it from.

Biryiani is a good easy to start with choice. Get whatever meat version or a veggie one. Its rice with the meat/veg mixed through it and a lovely corriander based curry sauce. Delicious.

Think I will have to make an Indian tonight now. This is making me crave it!

The lad might never go back if he start off with something like that! Start off with something mild and work your way up as and when you feel able to handle the heat. Lovely food, Bombay Pantry are the tops.

They do fart, they just don't take pride in the stench and resonance of the fart.

I like Daal, Tarka Daal or Daal Makhani, I lived in Glasgow for a few years so was in curry heaven, if anone ever goes over can I recommend a place called the Dhabba, its pretty high end & is frequented by footballers (I met Paul McStay, Frank McAvennie, Didier Agathe, Richard Gough & McCoist there) but its quite expensive, I had a tandoori lobster there a few times....class though

It has to be a Chicken Saag for me (I need my meat). The veggie option ain't a bad substitute though.. The spinach really does make it!

I'd start with something mild like a tikka masala, and work your way up. I've found them a lot milder here than in Manchester.

Was back in Manch a couple of weekends ago and had a lovely Chicken Madras, Bombay spuds and rice - a lot hotter than over here, but actually just about right for me. Right heat for me is hot enough to make my nose run, but not so hot that it makes my eyes water

btw whats the point of the milk and then a hot curry? just get a milder curry ffs.

That's where (many years ago) I had my "Cremation" in a dirty kip of a place called The Palace.

Isn't that what results from the afore mentioned ingredients?;)
