Megadeth last night

Dave mustaine comes across as a ****, going through the motions, but I spose at 47 thats understandable, and being a born again christian doesn't help that fact. Anyhow good concert all the same even if it was quite short. :)

Mustaine is crap, Megadeth are a poor mans Metallica imo, with half the energy on stage.
Just my opinion though. I recently got slated for attending an Aslan concert in Letterkenny, I still get stick over on our forum, so what do I know eh? :p

I saw Megadeth in the Olympia Ballroom in 1987 / 88.

Agree with the others - Mustaine has had the hump for years that he got chucked out of Metallica - they have had some decent albums but have not grown musically.

They were one of the original big 4 of thrash but have faded away

Angus, it has nothing to do with evolution, metallica sold out for the mainstream when realeasing black. Megadeth stuck true to what they beleived in, and still do, and their music is still as good. Its selling out nothing else.

They haven't faded away at all. The gig in London sold out quicker than there last 4 ones in London ( not download or any of those included )

I've seen both Megadeth and Metallica live and Megadeth were far superior. IMO they both made four good albums but their output since the early 90s has been poor at best.

no but if you look at washington ( dont like the lyrics ) or trust it still pretty good stuff like. Its obviouslly not as quick as it used to be but still good.

Ive seen both live a few times now and I would say metallica are far better, if for nothing else giving off the idea that they are actually enjoying themselves....

Partially true ...well the Metallica bit. There is a real parrallel between Metallicas 'Black' and Megadeths 'Countdown to Extinction'. Both records, released within a year of each other, involve bands coming "in-field" from the fringes and embracing more conventional templates for songwriting, production and presentation and BOTH for the very same reason ...to try and break out of the metal charts and into the mainstream market.

Symphony of Destruction and Enter Sandman are BOTH trying to be just a bit more ACDC in order to make that breakout happen. That it worked for Metallica and not so much so for Megadeth is scarcely the formers fault.

As for "sticking true to what you believe in" ...I'm not so sure Metallica had anywhere else to go but poppy. Another "Justice" or MoP would've been loved I'm sure by the fans but there'd likely have been little by way of growth either musically or in popularity. Looked at in the context of the time it was recorded and released, both bands were being out thrashed, out-growled and out-sped by the likes of Sepultura so it was time to push on to adventures new.

That's not to excuse Nothing Else Matters sounding like Peter fcuking Cetera and his merry chums Chicago mind but still...

Thats the sole difference, he kept griding down there guitars replacing power chords with your simple but effective harmonic crap. Having said that I do like some of that crap.

I suspect we both dislike Bob Rocks involvment with Metallica for different reasons. I seem to recall you're something of a fan of Motley Crue (grave, profound and very sincere apologies if I'm wrong) ...well they got him because of the overall sound he engineered on MC records.

I dislike much of Bob Rocks production input to Metallica because, in my opinion, he tries to get them to make Guns'n'Roses records ...and I'm somewhat indifferent to GNR.

By the way, you and the legions you claim are on your side who "know the old Metallica" are whistling past the graveyard if you genuinely think Metallica could or should've released, in late 1991, another album of fundamentally the same format as the previous three. The world had turned a few times and they'd have been left away to the same fate of ever decreasing record sales, smaller venue tours, diminishing profiles, returns and budgets that awaited and befell the Testaments, the Slayers, the Anthraxs (who were probably pushing the envelope more than any of them) and the Megadeths.

That's not to say the others don't continue to enjoy productive, creative careers either.

Used to have a bootleg tape of an old Megadeth gig in the Top Hat (I think) where Mustaine threw a hissy fit because someone spat on his guitar, and walked off the stage. My brother was at the gig and reckons a lot of people were very ****ed off with him and probably still are!

Think that was the Ulster Hall in 88-89. He's lucky he didn't get himself or someone else killed swanning into a situation he knew jack**** about and mouthing off to a mixed audience.

ya the brother was telling me about that, I was trying to figure out, who won the fight and how many would have been "catholics"/republicans/nationalists and how many not....

that experience made him write one of the greatest metal riffs of all time. actually im going off to youtube now to listen to it. Thanks boovidge.

lionel, with countdown they went "commercial" or as commercial as they ever went really ( bar risk ), but it still sounded megadeth, and it didnt sound anything like nothing else matters or any other song on that. Black sounded nothing like and justice for all. if you really want to think about when they went on a par with metallica it was youthanasia. I think they did that because of what happend with the success of black. COnsidering it was released 3 years after it too, would make sense.

it happened in the ulster hall alright, he reckons that he had to tour the UK in a bullet proof bus afterwards. "this is for the cause, give Ireland back to the Irish". :D
