As they just declared independence I figured a thread should be started. They already have a team according to Wikipedia and even beat Saudi Arabia last year. Anyone know of famous players from Kosovo or what the odds of them joining FIFA are?

Not good. Many FIFA affiliated states would be opposed to them joining on political grounds, Serbia (of course) woudl refuse to play them as would Russia, China, a number of EU states and of course you also throw in many Latin American, Asian and African states who are right now opposed to Kosovo independence for practical political reasons. Cant see them in UEFA even.

Right now another Taiwan in the offing.

But Taiwan do play in the World Cup, as well as Palestine & The Faroes who would not be recognised as fully fledged countries.

I think FIFA tend to take it on a case by case basis.

They've had a domestic league (http://www.rsssf.com/tablesk/kosovo08.html) for many years anyway. I'd imagine it'd be a similar case to Montenegro in terms of accession to UEFA (assuming no problems with independence obviously)
