Anyone know who will be your team's captain for this coming season? Gavin Peers is ours. It was Faz last season(after Hughes abondoned us) but because of the dis-respect he showed the club by handing in a transfer request Paul Cook decided Peers is a better option:).

Tony Sheilds - super player and great leader. Would still be playing in England if it weren't for Barry Fry.

Conor Kenna was captain for our friendly in Wexford I believe. I don't think any likely candidate was missing so he'll probably be captain for the season.

Despite what Mathews may say, its got to be Dan Murray - and has been in preseason.

Fine player :) can't wait to see him at the cross again this year.

Stuart Byrne was last season, I'd imagine it would be the same this year.

I know Pats' is Dave Rogers.

According to today's Sentinel ( a local rag), a new Galway United captain will be appointed shortly. John Fitzgerald wore the armband for the friendly against Athlone last week and is a good bet to retain it. Wes Charles was captain last season; he is currently away on international duty.

How is it disrespectful to want to move?

I'm guessing our captain will be Clive Delaney this year.

How is it disrespectful to want to move?Ask Paul Cook. I presume it's because he was treated so well by the club in terms of his contract etc. and he made every indication he was happy. As soon as season finished, he said he wanted out, mainly because Doolin was in his ear about joining them.

Byrne was captain only when Fabio and Gavin were out injured. Our club captain is Fabio, with Jason Gavin as vice-captain as far as I know.

Would like to see a few more preseason games to see who ours might be.
Mul was the obvious candidate he's but now gone. Breener would be another but is he in Cronin's first XI?
I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Vinnie Sullivan get the armband this season, as a combination of youth, newness to the team and potential shortage of starts rule out the other contenders.

Daire Doyle has been captain in all 3 of our pre season games so far, duno if we can read into that though...

He Fcuking better not

Hunt should always be captain aslong as he's here, can't think of anyone more inspirational or as hard working as him in the league, never mind in the club.

Fenlon said at his new conference that he saw no point assigning the captaincy to anyone else as Hunt had held it for so long. So Hunt will be club captain again.

I agree wholeheartedly but I found it strange that it's deemed "disrespectful" to want to leave especially when Kuduzovic has proved himself in this division.

He mightn't even be playing for us...

My guess at the moment is Fahey will be.

Fahey would be a rubbish captain, IMO. Of the established players, Barry Ryan would be the best bet (although I'm not keen on goalkeeping captains.) I'd say Dempsey would make a good skipper.

Byrne was captain only when Fabio and Gavin were out injured. Our club captain is Fabio, with Jason Gavin as vice-captain as far as I know.Spot on - it was both of them who lifted the league trophy. Fabio as club captain and Gavin, as he was captain on the night.

I haven't seen him play regularly so I'll take your word. From what I've seen he's impressed, much more than Matt Judge (when I've seen him) who some Sligo fans seem to rave about.

No it won't be Derek O'Brien, the smart money is on John Fitzgerald, with Alan Keane to be named as a club captain like Dave Cooke was last season - represent the club at awards nights, go in to schools to talk about United, that kind of thing

Ian Rossitter was ours in the friendly against Galway Utd and was captain for the past couple of seasons. I don't see any reason for that to change.

Waterford Uniteds will be John Hayes again

Wasn't it the club captain Hayes was last season though?
If he isn't in Cronin's first XI plans will it be an ad hoc decision or will a set team captain be appointed? Not many likely choices if the latter.

Just been confirmed on the club website:
"Bray Wanderers legend Colm Tresson has been installed as captain for 2008.
Colm will be assisted by new vice-Capitan Alan Cawley.
Cawley is Bray's current player of the year and finished as the league top scoring midfielder last season with 7 goals. "
