Dont know if they're the same, maybe peanuts are a more processed version ?

The monkey nuts were my favourite Halloween thing when when I was a kid :)

I used to eat loads of peanuts until recently, now I am guaranteed to be violently sick within 5 minutes of eating them so I reluctantly had to give them up =(

If by processed you mean taken out of the shell, and skin, then yes. They are the same thing.

Actually, you can grow the plant quite easily. Make a hole in the shell of the monkey nut, and keep somewhere warm until the nut germinates.

They are the same thing. What was commonly known as monkey nuts are the raw version. Not nice really. If you shell them and roast them(easy to do) them become peanuts, and are much nicer. (OK, it is a slow day :D)
