Mahon takes advantage of break
Following Derry City’s excellent victory over eircom League leaders Shelbourne on Thursday night last, manager Kevin Mahon has decided to take a well-earned break ... meaning he will miss Tuesday’s League Cup quarter-final meeting with Sligo Rovers.
The 2-0 win over Shels was the Dublin side’s first defeat of the season and a major boost to the Candystripes as they have had mixed fortunes in the first part of the season.
Derry are currently seventh in the Premier Division but remain just a point above Drogheda United and Longford Town, while UCD prop up the table a further eight points adrift.
With the league currently in the middle of a summer break, Mahon is not due to return to work until July 1. In his absence assistant manager Hugh Harkin will be in charge for the meeting with Sligo Rovers at the Brandywell.
