Anyone have a link to this story ? it was run at the weekend Joe duffy did a little on it yesterday. Apparently there is this woman that runs a prayer house and people pay to come and stay in it as she can "see the virgin mary" and i think gets stigmata.
Fine you might think if people are silly enough to give there money away to a good cause then fine. But it now turns out she has over 10 mill euro worth of property she has BMW's parked up outside these fantastic houses yet drives down to the "prayer house" in a beat up skoda as she doesn't believe in material wealth :D
Even after all this there was still people ringing up talkign about how holy she is.
All this stuff annoys me how can people keep falling for this stuff and why are people aloud to get away with it ?
Things like
Mediums/Angel card readers : you cant talk to the dead and if you could to pass on comfort to loved ones you wouldnt charge !! and why do dead people allways talk in weird riddles "his name starts with a J " !!
Those weird women that show up saying maddie is here she will be found on this date !! it getting peoples hopes up just to get your name in the paper.
I suppose fools and there money !

I think it's far more sinister than parting fools from their money. The issue in general that is.
On the specific house of prayer claptrap - I heard a bit about it on the wireless yesterday including an RC priest (who should be defrocked -and not in a good way;)) defending her, her "places of refuge" and her industry which basically involves targeting the desperate and shaking them down.
I don't believe in any God, Heaven, Hell or Devil but I do sincerely hope that if there is a Devil who awaits some us in Hell -he's keeping something really kinky in store for those who would seek to prey upon the vulnerable, the sick, the desperate and their families.
There's a lot of them out them out there. Two things I'm certain of in relation to this woman -
she couldn't cure ham with a drum of salt and she couldn't predict a ****ty smelling boot if she trod in crap.

I saw a Christian Preacher in Limerick with some of my friends, more for the experience than anything else, and it was sickening how he was conning terminally ill people into handing over €50 notes with false hope. These people should be round up and shot is my point

Looking foward to todays joe duffy show im hoping he does go ahead with this story at the end of yesterdays bit he read a letter from her lawyers that said if he disscussed the house he would get sued. HE just said for what ?? & that they treathened him with that before as well he invited her to come on so im hoping for a good old fashion hysterical Joe duffy show.
I remember the priest saying something along the lines of The woman says nothing is too good for our ladies house ! Joe says so she needs hot tubs and plasma tv's :D

The whole angels things befuddles me. I seem to remember someone on here wanting to set up some kind of enterprise around it at some point, and they really seemed to believe in the whole thing. I know we shouldn't laugh at people's beliefs, but, well, I kind of find it laughable. It's just silly like.

That was Magicme if memory serves me
the angel cards and stuff are relatively harmless
my auld one got into it a few years ago and after much harassment I finally let her do a reading for me which funnily enough was very accurate

I never mind people believing in something like angels god afterlife etc. As mainly its a nice concept that may or may not exist i dont want to get into a what does exist thread.
I really have a problem with people making money out of the bewildered/scarred and its not all religion based either these Life coaches, self help books( great line in a school for scoudrels billy bobs asks them if they have ever bought a self help book they all raise there hands and he say you cant help yourselfs look at yourselves your all retards ), homeopity ( no way thats spelt right :D) There was a case near limerick of a guy taking a fortune from terminally ill people promising them and the families a cure and giving them what turned out to be little more than a bottle of pigs blood. When people are faced with death they will do allmost anything to try and stay alive and these people are absolute bottom feeders to be taking advantage of them.
The missus who is a nurse says its a very common accurance for the priest to turn up to dying old ladies and getting them to leave everything they have to him oh sorry "the church".
There are people out there that let these people run there lives they will before making a decision go for a angel card reading or ask there Psycic or life coach if they should go ahead with it.

Any readings I ever got (Tarot etc.) were vague enough so as to fit your own purposes.
Which is kind of the point, I guess.
Personally I wouldn't go so far as to ridicule someone who uses them.
Whatever gets them through the day, like.
Would become a bit of a problem if they started living their life completely by them though

If your generic enough yes I agree you can see things the way you want to,
strangely though when I did the reading asked the cards if Mrs raptor would conceive as we'd been trying for a while and were getting worried,
basically the card spread I did was for three six and nine and twelve months into the future
first card 3 mths. some card to do with Family came out
second card 6 mths : some card to do with new additions
third card 9 mths: a card about working with children
Fourth card 12mth : the angel of parenthood
three month's later the missus fell preggers
she's due next month which will be exactly 12 mths after the reading
there are 40 odd cards in the deck and those four are about family babies etc. what are the chances of pulling out all four randomly?
I don't believe in the cards as such but found this eerie

since you asked, it's
40 C 4 = 91390
so 1 in 91390 or 0.0011%
but that's only if the other 36 were nothing to do with it; and that's the odds of it being random

Personally I'm against rounding up and shooting terminally ill people, unless they've got Zombieitis which would be perfectly understandable

They are on it now on Duffy's show
Ah he only did a quick 10 mins on it, he had the Director of the company on who didnt seems to have any idea of the goings on and said the sunday world where liars that she doesnt own the houses in ireland or the ones in america that they are belonging to the "charitable trust"A tittle the revenue took off them in ireland thats why they are now a company but the "director" had again no idea why this happened.
Also had a woman who said her mother has been brain washed into giving them money has sold the family home and all !!!
Said he would talk again about it tomor go Joe !!

We are told these people dont use their "gift" for gambling purposes because it would be immoral yet they are making a mint from vunerable people. Why dont they bet and give he dough to charity?I was looking at a sceptic website one day and it said the secret to success is always to tell the "client" what they want to hear.
Funniest quote in this thread was "i am looking forward to the Joe Duffy show"
"Faith" matters cannot be regulated otherwise mainstream churches would be banned. If religion, angels & such makes you feel good & you pay money to priest or preacher than go for it. If you expecting some being to change your life then you might be disappointed. In the end paying some conman preacher E50 is cheaper than paying for medical health cures.

I dont think the problem is people who thinks it makes them feel better and go for a laugh.
What people are disgusted by is when these people take advantage of the most vulnerable and hopeless.
Like those who have recently lost someone and cannot cope with the grief, or people with illnesses that medicine can cure. They are preying on death, disaster and desperation.

But you're still going to have to pay for the medical cure anyway.

I feel the same about small amounts 50 quid isnt much but there was a woman on yesterday who's elderly mother had sold there house to donate the money to the "House" !!
Or the ones that promise cures to Terminally ill people for large sums of cash that is much more sinister than just asking for donations from silly people.
I love the Joe duffy show listne every day love when some old biddy gets offended on someone elses behalf. That thing about the meteor old lady xmas ad was priceless.

Christinas Inbox runneth over. Either that or Mary (who's name wasn't Mary btw) popped in again to ask for a Novena to help "crush evil attacks coming against Her Mother House of Prayer, the Chain Houses and Her daughter Christina"
http://www.christinagallagher.org/en/
I'd just roll my eyes at her being mad as a sh1t-house rat but for her being a wicked leech.
