Two goals by Trevor Vaughan helped Monaghan United to a comfortable 3-0 victory over ten-man Athlone Town at Century Homes Park.

David O'Brien got the scoring underway in the 16th minute when he tapped home Anthony Shevlin's cross and goals from Vaughan in the 21st and 66th minute ensured the victory.

Athlone also lost the influential Ronan Frawley early in the second half when he was sent-off.
