Hey I'm currently making a new site which will replace an old site for a club. the old one is hosted with Eircom.

I'm creating the website through visual studios 2005 so I'll be using a SQL server database.
Which hosting company would ye recommend with such a database? As the domain name is registered with go-daddy I'd like to use them if possible but I'm not sure if they can host it as I can't see much information on it.( I'm new to all this stuff which might explain this)

Cheers.

hmmm it requires a license, i used trojan for www.toolsdirect.ie, but i know that they just outsourced it to another hosting company, worked out about 500 euro a year i think but it wasnt too bad. host.ie i think was the company actually, happy with the service so didnt leave them.

I recommend Blacknight for Windows hosting, as I don't run any Windows servers in Cork yet. I'm not sure if they support SQL Server or not, you can read about their offerings here (http://www.blacknight.ie/irishwindowshosting.0.html). Tell them Adam Beecher sent you for a 10% surcharge. :)

EDIT: Do yourself a favour, avoid GoDaddy like the plague. They may be cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Cheers Adam. They do it all right and a lad just told me of swhosting.ie also. Both do the job I'd say. Was sweating a bit when I saw the €500 mark mentioned by paul...phew!

Current domain registration runs out in may of next year so will look into other hosting companies after that maybe.

Trying posting something controversial on your website, even by mistake or in jest. Doesn't matter if it's hosted with them or not. They take the domain down first and ask questions later. Or rather they take down first and wait for you to contact them, and then take days or weeks to sort it out because they pay peanuts and get monkeys.

(Not a direct experience, I have several customers that are with me specifically because of GoDaddy. I'm not cheap, but I don't treat my customer like shít either.)

Only use domain for email :DEmail is hosting, and again, it doesn't matter if it's hosted with them or not. Read this (http://www.google.ie/search?q=godaddy+nectartech). That's not one email account or one site, that's a small data centre they took down, simply by killing the domain. If your email isn't worth that much to you then that's your lookout, but my view on it is has always been: why do business with a company with those policies and ideas for the sake of five bucks a year.

Does (self) advertising not attract an instant ban :eek:On a site I operate free of charge? No. Consider yourself lucky the place isn't plastered in advertising for my company!

Boasting again ;) I should have added: But I'm good. :)
