this whole thing is a joke at this stage end of story, we the irish supporters are worse again for backing deschamps or anyone else at this stage, the bookies are taking the ****, between Daglish , kendall , giles , brady, venables , mccarthy, jol, surely kerr will probably come into the equation, not to mention maurice setters or Eoin hand, a total joke, the bookies will be the only ones smiling!!!!!!!!!!

I've been checking the prices as well over the last couple of days & Dave O'Leary has gone from 14/1 yesterday to 9/1 this morning and has now shortened to 6/1. Obviously a lot of money going down on him. Anyone know why ?????
As regards Deschamps, I haven't heard anything new but someone's money is obviously talking for him to become joint fav.

All it takes is a few of these texts to go around I suppose:

Merrion square.

There's been a total of €1k put on Deschamps on Betfair in the last hour or so.

the original post said nothing of Merrion square but that he'd been spotted outside FAI hq.

The original post is the one I linked...

Anyway, as someone in the thread said, you don't just spot someone outside the Abbotstown Headquarters unless their car has broken down.

With all the secrecy around the position do you think the FAI would invite a candidate to their head office on a Friday afternoon!!?

Giles is now joint favourite with Venables.

Didier Deschamps.... Christ.

Theres more chance of me getting my balls licked by Kylie Minogue than the FAI landing Deschamps.

Someone got a tip about Deschamps.
A lad I know went to the bookies and put a score on at 100-1. I was in the same bookies five minutes after him and he was down to 66-1.
A couple of peole later, and only the odd fiver and Deschamps was down to 25-1.
Bookies aren’t taken any chances and slash odds once any sort of money is put down

is there anything stopping a bookies from making false odds? i.e the have deschamps at 100-1 at lunch time the 66-1 at teatime and the next morning at 33-1 this is obviously gonna get people backing him heavily..
any legislation stopping them from fooling us?

It's a complete money making racket. I believe people do and are doing this and have done for a long time. Names float to the top only to be deflated again in the blink of an eye. You or I could manipulate the market easily. All it takes is too have a small bank of money. Arrange a few bets to put on an unlikely, but kinda possible candidate, in a few bookies around the country and on the exchanges. Then bookies must then shorten odds if nothing else to balance their books. Then we log on to one of the betting exchanges and lay (take bets) that candidate when mug money starts going on him. All in all, simply done.

The only thing sustaining this is that one time it will be true.

Guys, stay out of the bookies and don't be giving these crap rumours any credence. I hear Gary Waddock's doing a great job at Aldershot. What price is he?

Just common sense....

It's because of the public's general lack of it that no bookie ever walked to work in the rain.

New favourite on Betfair .. into evens nearly. has there been some sort of leak?

(Edit: got a bit excited there. Still can't imagine Deschamps as Irish manager though)

There's no such thing as true or false odds (apart from in lotteries and casino games, etc.). They're opinion.

like one bet of 23 grand or just a huge amount of bets on him in quick succession??

is there a bit of insider trading going on here? (I hope so!!!)

Is "Paddy Power" a member of this forum? I may have a couple of questions for him.

Collection of small bets. Sounds like another rumour. Venables is 100/30 with Boylesports which is a good bet.

What looking at Paddy Power site earlier, for a price on the next Liverpool manager.

They have Deschamps at 2 to 1 ON favourite to become the next Republic Of Ireland Manager.

That's encouraging. It could be just a rumour that got out of hand though. I've heard loads of rumours about Deschamps but not one mention of him in the papers (other than Roy Keane talking about the Deschamps rumour).

Deschamps is 4-7 with PP and the same with Spoilsports yet he is almost 6-4 with BEtfair.

When are you lads gonna realise that for markets like this, the exchange is THE ONLY market worth checking....?

You may have missed the bit where Noelys Guitar tells us that €23k was put on Deschamps in a 90 minute period today. :) There's been €4k put on him since I started watching the market 20 minutes ago. Obviously people are willing to lay at that price because he's about the 7th or 8th different favourite so far.

If its true...... then bring it on! A proper successful experienced player (at the highest level - not at some sleeping giant of a club in the Epl), experiened football in different countries, brought a relatively small (in European terms) to a CL final and took charge of Juve in a turbulent time.
From his wiki entry(!) he doesn't seem to suffer fools at board level lightly so that could be a problem. Can't see his ego getting him into trouble with the new technical supervisor.

The only disappointing thing about the whole thing (if true) is that the FAI will have done a good thing.
Shudder!!!!

According to Newstalk someone put 6 grand on Deschamp early this morning and this started the deluge of betting. They also said that Givens stated yesterday that nobody from the FAI knows who the 3 amigo's are interviewing.

My mate just saw Didier Deschamps outside the FAI offices on Merrion Square. 6/1 odds down from 20/1 this morning. Worth a flutter.

My major doubt about this isn't caused by the fact Deschamps wouldn't look twice at us, or anyones chances of getting kylie to lick their balls.

My big doubt is because as far as i was aware the FAI aren't in Merrion Square anymore.

over on another forum a poster wrote:

Didier Deschamp just spotted in Cafe En Seine sipping champagne and eating Brie Sandwiches.

Two men in Blue Blazers beside him, one wearing fake moushtache and spectacles, the other playing with a minature statuette of the Eiffel Tower.

Made me laugh anyway!

Forget about Deschamps Houllier is 25/1. If he wants the job he will then surely he will get it. To be interviewed later this week.

It gets better by the hour , who's hot then who's cold ?
The only people who are having a laugh are our friends the bookies .
I must say the boys at Abbot and Costella town are the only ones saving money lets face it, it could turn up to be 3 months without a manager and hey the FAI have just saved that in wages even thou they have spend it on Stan already .
Just like everyone else I am sick of it now ,the only thing I am looking forward to today is the fixtures .......

but isn't Houllier being written off due to the large amount of compensation that will be due to the French FA?

Edit: Disregard! just read the examiner article in the new Ireland manager thread...

He's now favourite for the Newcastle gig and supposedly in talks with them. Still, I'm sure if Don Howe explains that they still have to meet Lawrie Sanchez at the end of the week, and Roy Evans and Brian Little are only weeks away from being interviewed, he won't mind hanging on...

Yes, linked with interest in move to Newcastle by BBC:

If this process takes any longer, the only one left will be El Tel. Hmmmmmmm....

Neither Deschamps or Houllier are fools though; for all our criticisms that Ireland have unrealistic expectations, Newcastle are as bad, if not worse.

Deschamps has supposedly stated an interest in the Newcastle job, therefore that rules him out of the Irish job. Cant see Houiller taking the Irish job, Im not sure if rumours of him been interviewed this week are even true as he is meant to be on FFF duty in the states.
