Did you head to Mr. Scruff afterwards Jebus?
In case you didn't, I can tell you it was absolutely top-drawer, one of my favourite gigs ever, definitely go to him if you get the chance again. Great mix of reggaey, funky, souly, poppy music, few random tunes like "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick", just great beat the whole way through, closing with a super mix of Cure's Love Cats. Most enjoyable!
Well impressed with the venue's facelift too. Though (decent as it was) Guinness out of a plastic 'glass' just wasn't right.

Didn't in the end, one of the couples we hang around with are off travelling for the year so we were in Thomas Reed all night. Have caught Scruff before though and I agree with everything you said about him. Gonna be in the Button Club on wednesday night for Teegan and Sara as well so I'm looking forward to seeing what they've done to the place

Got my Prince Tickets. If its half as good as the Show in the O2 Arena in London last August it will be one of the best gigs of the year.

Sister Sara's I do belive cracking wee band!
Prince = Shane Ward for the over 30s.
Wouldnt open my curtains to see him. While i'm no fan of the little man, he has more talent in his little toe ( and that'd be pretty small) than that Ward fella will ever know.

extreme example but I'd agree with the gist. Any of his songs that I've ever heard (i.e his singles) have been complete and utter sh!te....I'd rank him up there with Simply Red as one of my most hated artists....

I just think its another of these gigs for people who dont really like music. "oh have you got your Prince tickets?" eh no. I dont. cause hes brutal. apparently his shows go on for hours. Would love to see the faces of the FM 104 crowd when he launches in to a 12 minute funk work out. This next one is called "Bass Odyssey":D

Seriously Bill is that a wind up. This is a guy who is self though on over 30 musical instruments and he composed, arranged, performed and produced his debut album at the age of 19. He has written tonnes of work for many artists throughout the 80s and has had various musical styles.
I would also reckon he is probably in the top five of living guitarist. There is a guy in work who likes his rock music, and guitar legends and reckoned Prince was crap and just a boring pop act. Until I showed him Prince performing and George Harrissons Induction to the Hall of Fame and his Guitar solo in that with Top Petty and Jeff Lynne is unreal. As i said, I can understand not liking his music but his talent for playing musical is not really up for question.
You may not like his music but to compare him to Shane Ward is down right ignorant but as I said maybe its a wind up.

That will only happen if they go to the aftershow party. I have seen Prince about 6 times now and this tour is his Greatest Hits Tour and basically anybody who has listened to the radio in the last 25 years will have heard most of the songs on the Set List.
However if you go to this after-show party which could be in Tri-Pod or somewhere like that, he will play for about 3 hours and play a very James Brown, George Clinton type show.
I understand what you are saying about the FM 104 crowd as they will be expecting a lot of the pop tunes but many of Princes album tracks are works of pure genius.
To be fair I think your writing him off is based on pure ignorance but I could be wrong.

Would you mind not calling me ignorant. I know my music and Prince is a pile a commercial toss. That real manufactured studio sound. oh sweet jesus. As for top 5 guitarists. jesus weapt. are we back in play school? So he wrote a load of songs for artists in the 80s? Give him life for crimes against music then. Worst decade for music ever. FACT!
Would you mind not calling me ignorant. I know my music and Prince is a pile a commercial toss. All this is entirely your own opinion, i'm no fan of the man but he is a talented individual. I really did think you had an idea about music but a rather pretentious cloud is now in the way.

I think Hot Chip are playing in Tripod in Dublin on March 20th. Considering I'm going I really should know this for sure. I also got my tickets for The Zutons earlier. Pretty happy with that as I missed them the last time they were here.

Ignorant to Prince is what I was saying not Ignorant about music in general. If you think he only has a real manufactured studio sound well then that is ignorance as you have clearly not seen him play live or heard his albums much.

Just in case anyone here wouldn't like to miss the appearance of the best artist in the world on our shores I better tell ye that the electro maestro himself Etienne de Crécy is coming to UCD next Friday.
Of more interest, perhaps, is the appearance of B*Witched and East17 at an adjacent stage.
I'm sure anto1208 will be thrilled to hear that Lemonhead's lead singer Evan Dando is playing in Dublin in May for anyone who's interested :)

Tickets currently in my pocket, small crowd (only 10,000 tickets available) so it should be good, smaller crowds make for far better gigs imo.

Nah it can hold up to 40,000 afaik, its usually closed off to around 10,000 and if tickets sell quickly they open it further.
Muse will most likely be 10,000 at most with them playig here fairly reglar the past few years.

Oh right. I think someone here posted that there were only about 10,000 tickets available for Metallica so I was kind of basing it on that.

Mainly going for the two support acts. Killers are a nice bonus.
