We rounded off 2006 with four points instead of nine
First up in ‘07 was San Marino, so surely 3 more are in line,
The less said about that dreadful night when we all got such a fright
To be second best to a team of office clerks is just not fu*kin right.
Kilbane was full of effort, and put us one in front,
If we surely need another, then Stan can bring on Hunt.
Things didn’t play out as we thought; in fact they got quite tricky,
A mix up between mcshane and Henderson, and the San Marino lad knocked it in with his mickey.
We hardly deserved the points that night, but battled on to a win,
The poor oul san marinians felt the victim of a sin.
Relax; said John Delaney, it’s the points that really matter,
While the Irish fans around the ground wanted his head upon a platter.

Next up in March at Croker, and an important double header,
If we can beat the Welsh and Slovakians, then things would look a little better.
A Saturday afternoon in Drumcondra, and the stage was surely set,
But the safest thing in Croker that afternoon was the back of the fu*kin net
We worried if we could hold our lead with Bellamy prancing like a Phantom,
But the highlight of that afternoon was the Welsh bird that sung their anthem…

On to the Wednesday night and this was what its all about,
The fans were in fine voice, well souped up on harp and Stout.
We sensed the points were surely ours, if only we would dare,
As the atmosphere was growing like Stephen Ireland’s hair.
We opened up in flying form, and things were going grand,
Then Carsley was upended underneath the Cusack Stand.
Duffer whipped in a ball with plenty of curve and spin,
And Doyler leapt like an Atlantic salmon and stuck the Fuc*er in!!
The old ground sure erupted and this was just the pill,
To silence the Slovakians stuck up upon the Hill.

Things started to look promising after two wins in a row,
Though we knew the real challenges lay ahead if to the Euros we would go
The gaffer worked out his strategy for those tougher dates,
And set up a couple of friendlies over in the United States.
As we have seen down through the years, those trips are not much of a test,
But a chance for the players to down the beers, and take a fu*kin rest.
We ended up with half a squad, and a chance for the younger players,
To pick up an easy cap for anyone that cares.
The whole thing ended up in farce and as the squad departed,
If Christy Brown had been on that flight, he probably would have started!
The strangest selection of the bunch was the young lad called Lapira,
A surfer dude from Indiana, who looks more like Shakira.
We settled for 2 boring draws, and looking back on reflection,
If you had red hair in the Month of May, you would have been available for selection.

We ended off the summer beating the Danes away by four
And optimism was building for what September had in store.
We led the Slovakians by a wonder strike and things were looking good
When that Slovakian fu*ker equalized, and raised the level of our blood.
Why can’t we hold on to a lead, do we have any solutions?
Clearly Staunton gets the blame for his stupid substitutions.
Another couple of points dropped that we had in the bag,
So we gathered up our spirits once again, and prepared for Prague.

We battled bravely against the Czechs, but our campaign was put to bed,
When that Czech bi*ch rolled around, and Hunty got the red.
We took one point in these two games, when really we needed five,
But on a much more positive note, we got word that Stephen Irelands granny is alive!!
We played out the last three games of the group and the Gaffer got the sack,
I think if given half the chance we’d take Big Jack Charlton back.
As far as the awards for 2007, well then here is my nomination:
Its split between the Irish fans; and “Petric” the Croatian!
