Right, in the last hour I've come up with an idea for a product that will revolutionise the world of spoons for babies.:)

I'm 100% certain my product will be astonishingly popular everywhere. So I'm not worried on that front:D

What I need advise on is the issue of patenting. How much it costs, how long it takes, different kinds of patents, etc, and also if I can patent a product myself, or need to get somebody to do it for me.

Does anybody have any advise or details that I won't have found in the usual internet searches?

First port of call the Irish Patents Office:

http://www.patentsoffice.ie/en/patents.aspx

Then you can have a chat with a Patent Agent:

http://www.maclachlan.ie/patents/patent.htm

None of the above costs anything. However, if the advice you get is that the matter is patentable, then the cost of protecting the patents will run in to 4 figures and more depending on how many countries you wish to protect the patent in.

And in the cold, and more importantly, sober, light of day, I'm having second thoughts as to the brilliance of my invention.

Who'd have thought that an idea conceived while under the influence would actually turn out to be less brilliant than it originally seemed?
