Dodge has suggested that we set up a board directly related to fans groups and more specifially this new FAI thing ... likely topics would be ticket distribution, ideas for displays, that sort of thing. I was thinking that something like this might be a good idea myself the other day, but to be honest I can't really gauge demand and I don't want Foot.ie to be seen as grabbing for turf either. The best people to comment on this are organisers like FourFiveOne and of course the fans, so I'm throwing this open to the hordes. Thanks to Dodge for the suggestions.
adam
PS. That's hordes. Hordes.
Yeah I'm all for it :D Seriously though, it might be too late for these games but if this takes off, it'll be good to have a permanent home to co-ordinate things rather than individuals doing it haphazardly. If we, as eL fans, could speak with some sort of unity there'd be no stopping us...
Possibly, but could we not just take over the National Team forum? Most users of that would be eL supporters anyway.....
Yeah but the new board wouldn't have any discussion as to whther Kevin Kilbane is better than Stephen Reid, it'd be solely for the fans thing
johnnys el board is all over the shop this is crying out for a dedicated section....if interest peaks at a certain point you can move threads to national team if needs be
give it a go!
Yeah I'd say go for it, definately.

Yeah, why not. I've been a bit out of the loop regarding this (and I'm sure I'm not alone) so somewhere to get info on the whole thing would be a good idea.
yeah i reckon go for it
that kinda stuff needs a home / forum of its own

I was just about to set up a dedicated Ireland section, with National Team and Fans Forum, but it got me thinking: can stuff like this not just be posted in the National Team forum? Isn't that where fans hang out?
(There's an open offer for mailing lists on request by the way.)

I don't go the National tem bit and am only interested in the fans thing (and believe me its totally different)... Can you PM with the details of your mailing list info and I'll see if I can swap over (didn't know you provided mailing lists)
Maybe you should add a Fans Forums section in the National Team section for a trial run.
Me thinks Fans Forums be totally different from normal international team duscussions.
Fans Forums may even have more place in the eL section?
what about a sticky fans forum thread in the national team section, a la the champions league one in off topic, and we can see how it goes from there?
duno i think its own section would be the job
especially as there are so many clubs (16) getting involved if there was a dedicated forum section then it might as the first to market kinda thing get the traffic and become the home of it for all clubs thus drawing ppl to the site like.. maybe the lads from soccercentral cud link to it then for future discussions / el fan 'gatherings' ;) at matches
thoughts ?

thoughts ? Yeah, I reckon that's a good idea. If it gets fúck all traffic it can just be merged back into National Team surely?

Dodge, I set up a mailing list, you should have received instructions. The list address is fans@foot.ie, the user interface is at...
http://billyfurry.beecher.net/mailman/listinfo/fans
...the admin interface is at...
http://billyfurry.beecher.net/mailman/listinfo/fans
I can't make the interfaces use the foot.ie domain name, because the list is on my dedicated mail server. I'll set up lists.foot.ie later on tonight if I think of it.
We still need to resolve what we're going to do with a web forum though. As I said, I was going to split out a section for "Ireland", and put the fans forum in there, are we saying that's not right now?
adam
No, Adam I think thats about right. Set it up and I can do the plugging....
Got the mails, seems a bit weird though...damn that yahoo is easy...
Oh and those links above are the same....

EDIT: The list is fans@lists.foot.ie, the user interface is available from...
http://lists.foot.ie/mailman/listinfo/fans
...the admin interface is available from...
http://lists.foot.ie/mailman/admin/fans
NOTE: Please don't change the main settings, I have a particular way of operating lists and I don't like people tooling with it. Don't change the FANS name, as you'll break the list -- if you want a different name, I need to delete this and add a new one. And leave Foot.ie in there, I'm providing the service for free, I expect something in return.

Who's running this thing me or you!?! ;) I was going to take foot.ie out of the subject prefix as they way it is, it looks too long., but I'm not that pushed. What about a compromise and have [foot.ie Fans] rather than all caps...

Me. I'm the admin, you're the mod. :)
I've removed Foot.ie from the prefix and put it back to FANS. I've also changed the list hostname to lists.foot.ie, as plain foot.ie won't work. Just leave the config the way it is for the moment, you can tweak it later.
adam
Ok here's what I send to the new group...is that wrong now...
_____
Ok lads foot.ie have kindly agreed to host this list
and also the admin there are going to have a forum
dedicated to chatting about this fans thing. I've
swapped everybody over and if you have any trouble
e-mail me at osamisdoubtful@yahoo.ie
The new mail address is fans@foot.ie which I thnk
you'll all agree is mch better than
elfansgroups@yahoogroups.com :)
_______
I'm getting a headache...

It has to be like that because it's possible that we'll introduce "Foot.ie Mail" at some time in the future, so we need to take oddities like this out of the main foot.ie namespace where possible.

By the way, I'll leave the menus the way they are until we see how it goes. No doubt someone will remind me in an annoying screechy voice in a month or so. :)
