Will Keane be kept?
SHOULD Keane be kept?
Dunne or Given a better option?
Dunne surely deserves it at this stage...Could be the best thing for Keane....Dont think been captain helps his game

Given should get it, he's the only player who consistently plays well for Ireland. Keepers rarely get it though so in that case then Dunne. Under no circumstances should Keane be given it.

Keane won't want to give itup no doubt. It is a huge honour to captain your country at the end of the day so you could hardly blame him. However, if he put his hand on his heart he would admit that it possibly affected his performances and should let someone else get the job.
Dunne is obviously the stand out candidate.

Seems to be okay at Spurs. Personally, I think the captain thing is blown out of all proportion and it's not nearly as important, in Keane's case or generally speaking, as is being made out.

I am a fan of Keane's but if it stopped him waving his arms all the time, then I'd favour Dunne. Anyway, I like centre-backs like Dunne as captains. Lead by example. Blood running down the foreheads. Frightening the opposition captain when they go to toss by coin by squeezing the life out of his hand during the handshake :D
Goalkeepers. Too far removed from the action.

Im a fan of Keane too, when he's not flapping like Icarus, but I agree, I do think that the added (press-induced, mostly) pressure of the armband has affected his thinking throughout the game.
That, and when he steams towards the ref to query a decision with his angry face on, he looks less an authoritarian, and more one of the little twonks who used to hang around the Square car parks, offering to "mind yizer car, mister?" , whereas Richard Dunne negotiating with a ref has all the deceptively calm air of a man who knows your car needs NO minding, as he has just torn it into two parts with his own hands, and will possibly do the same to you later on , if you dont do as he politely requires.
And as said above, despite Shay's occasional little trots to the halfway line during quiet periods, he's WAAAAAY too far away from the majority of the players who need most shouting at during a game.
Dunne for me, all the way.

Dunne. Most improved player for Ireland. And I always prefer a central defender or central midfield player to be captain of the team.

He's flown quite close to "The Sun" at times too.

Finnan is a good candidate too. Less likely to be suspended than Dunne.

I like Finnan, but for me there's no way you'd strip the captaincy from Keane and give it to Finnan over Dunne. :o

Dunne should have been give it last time around. Barring injury, he'll be the heart of our defense until the 2014 World Cup.

Dunne for me too, he is in one of the best positions on the field to do the job, his average rating on Sky is 7.2 which is high, especially for a defender.

"When I saw him four or five years ago, I was not that impressed," Eriksson admitted.
"Looking at him recently, he has been fantastic. Now, he is one of the best in the country in his position."

Although pretty consistent for us, he's not vocal enough nor has the presence of the "natural " Captain.....Richard Dunne

would agree with dunne also. id like to see doyle get it in a few years. too soon now but always impressed with what he has to say and his interviews are always 100% honest

for me Dunne is the only choice...he is a true leader and was our most consistant player in the last campaign

It'll probably be easy enough to give it to Dunne. I never seen it staying on Robbies arm with all that wild waving he does.
