Only the second time in 25 years its happened. Paul Doolin is the Phillips manager of the year, following Jim McLaughlin in the eighties

Wow, that's impressive and it's great to see the league get some long overdue recognition but I can't help but think Doolin isn't really deserving of the award. Adi Birrell was by far the outstanding coach of the year.

The league was nailed on for Drogheda this season and if Doolin hadn't won I'm pretty sure he'd have been fired. Same goes for Kerry and Kilkenny - teams that are clearly dominant over their rivals - so this would explain the league-winning manager moving up the normal rankings along with poor seasons for rugby and let's not mention Mr. S. Despite all this, it's a very positive sign of an increased profile for football in this country.

(The article forgets to mention that another League of Ireland manager won this award (TWICE!) - not while he was actually managing a league team of course)

i actually agree with you birrell would have been the better choice, i also voted the ireland team for rte team of the year ahead of the drogs. but it is great for doolo to win the award

Stephen Henderson was winner of the November award and it was the first time since there was a first division that a 1st division manager won the award, great achievement seeming as the whole squads weekly wages were less than Doolins weekly wage.

Especially when we were 10 points behind St. Pats.

With how many games in hand? Comon you know full well it was your league to lose from the start

No games in hand. At one stage we were way behind Pats and had half a squad sitting in the stand.
