No they don't - Suffolk Rd in West Belfast.....

You not confusing them with former West Belfast team Distillery - now Lisburn Distillery....?

We were apparently all lined-up for a mini-tour of Scotland in the New Year.

Robbo's sacking will doubtless ahve put paid to that.

I'm pretty sure Limerick are currently the only team from the Republic of Ireland to have played at Donegal Celtic's ground. We lost a pre-season friendly there 2-1 in 1990.

Why are they called Donegal Celtic. Last time i looked at a map west belfast was a long way from Donegal

Because many of the street names in the immediate vicinty relate to places in Donegal - Falcarragh, Creeslough etc.

Creeslough Court, Creeslough Gardens, Creeslough Park, Creeslough Walk, Dungloe Crescent, Falcarragh Drive, Glenties Drive, Glenveagh Drive, Glenveagh Park, Gweedore Crescent, Gweedore Gardens, Gweedore Park, Kerrykeel Gardens etc etc.

And isn't there a Donegall Square in the city centre too?

monutdfc

Much of Belfast was built by the Marquis of Donegall, hence Donegall Square, Road, Pass etc. Note the 2 L's.

(Totally OT but a friend played water polo for Donegall (a polo team in Belfast) and was doing an interview and noticed the interviewer had a big red circle round the 2 Ls in Donegall on his cv, but couldn;t say anything. Think he got the job anyway.)

I don't know if it's the case around Donegal Celtic's ground, but street names from another area of the country are sometimes named after places where the builder comes from.

GavinZac
19/12/2007, 9:12 AM
Donegal Celtic has nothing to do with Donegall Road, where Belfast Celtic once played. As someone said, the name comes from the street names around them rather than the other side of town.

I'd imagine there is a certain amount of "we're Irish we are" element to it aswell.

Hi Raheny Red. The crowds did drop during the year but the 'core' support of the club is growing. We lost our temporary stand during the year, which didn't help and the new stand has been delayed because of planning issues. We love our footie down here and the crowds will come as soon as our facilities are properly established

I don't mean to be over-critical, but that's just downright careless.

:D
I think what actually happened was, the first stand with about 1,000 seats was needed by the company that it was rented from to be used at the Ryder Cup or some other big event. This was replaced with a smaller 600 seater stand, as far as I know this was only taken down near the end of the season in preparation for the building work on the new stand, which has now been delayed.

oldyouth
09/01/2008, 12:47 PM
Passinginterest is right. The new stand was due to be completed during the off-season but the planning problem put it on hold. If you know the Youths Complex, the temporary stand for the coming year is being put up on the opposite side of the pitch and construction of the new permanent stand will continue through the season

On February 26, Dundalk will provide the opposition in Dalymount Park for Bohemians, upon the team's return from Spain.
