I see Daryl Murphy has joined QPR for 2 million.
Was there a sell on clause in his transfer from Waterford?

If he was there when he was under 21 they'll be getting a cut regardless of whether there was an clause in the deal. I think it's 0.5% of the fee for each year spent at a club between 12 and 21, i.e. in this case £10,000 for each year at a club during that phase of his career.

I don't think there were any add-ons to the contract.

...or so I was led to believe at the time, but speculation on btid is that there was a 10% sell-on clause. Not the most reliable source, I guess.

I think i remember hearing at the time that sunderland were holding out on a release clause that waterford were looking for. Where are qpr getting that sort of money?

Flavio Briatori (of Formula 1 fame ) took over QPR so expect them to spend alot more

Again, from btid, there seems to be speculation that there was nothing re international appearances etc., but there was a sell-on clause. I reckon this is more hope than anything, and the deal was a straight one, with no add-ons.

Don't think he has joined QPR yet he's supposed to be in Sunderlands squad for the weekend apparently.....I could be wrong.
2 million an awful lot IMO as well.

He hasn't moved yet...I don't think he can move permanently until January at least......Can't believe they got 2M for him...I would have thought about 900k.

Do the club get all that cash or does any of it go to former Director?

But there is no way that we owe anything or anyone near £200,000. Happy Days:cool:

Murphy transfer to net 140,000 euros for Waterford

December 16, 2007

Waterford United are set to see their coffers boosted to the tune of 140,000 euros if, as expected, Darryl Murphy’s transfer to QPR goes ahead.

It seems certain Rangers will fork out 1.4m euros for Murphy next month which will hand United their welcome booty.

The fee between the London club and Sunderland has been agreed and it is now just up to Murphy to agree terms.

Murphy has failed to hit the heights he managed in helping Keane and Co. win promotion last year.

Waterford are guaranteed a 10 per cent windfall from the sell-on fee.

:D

And yes around 900K would sound about right, but the extra moneys not a bad thing either now that you have returned to us down here in Div One;)

There is a lesson in here for every club, to wise up as regards contracts and sort out sell on clauses and international appearances etc. Its about time clubs got money back like this. Its exactly how the system should work.

Exactly. Clubs should defo be insistent on this especially for younger players like O'Donovan, Long and Mooney etc. If any of them have success like D Murphy they'll earn a nice bit for the clubs but if they have the same success as Doyle and move on then the clubs could be getting 3 or 4 times the original transfer fee.
