A colleague just asked me who I thought would win. I wasn't even sure who was in contention so looked up the 11 candidates on BBC's website.

I have to say I'm surprised and disappointed that David Healy isn't on the list.

It's not an award I pay any attention to, but would anyone else agree?

I Lewis Hamilton will win despite choking at the end of the season.I have to say that was one of the great chokes of all time. Funny how it hasn't been portrayed that way. That race was just error after error even before the mechanical problems, when a modicum of composure would have seen him through.

Actually there are no footballers in the ten which is pretty amazing well it's not actually given what a ridiculous award it is.

David Healy should have got a nomination given his record.

IMO I think Hatton should get it weather he wins on saturday night or not! At least he is a World Champion as compared to Hamiliton!

The 2007 winner is Joe Calzaghe. It's about time, World Champion since what is it 1995?
Every year he didn't win Calzaghe came out with the quote above and hes right. Even this year the bookies favourite was Lewis Hamilton who came 2nd in the World Championship and rightfully came second in the SP of the Year. Hatton came 3rd. But i'm delighted for Calzaghe he's a fantastic boxer who has finally been rewarded. His Dad Enzo was named Coach of the Year after he trained 3 fighters including Joe to become World Champions.
The Brits still found a way to reward second place after the English Rugby Team were given Team of the Year for basically 4 weeks work. I don't get that at all. They were slated for their Six Nations performance and they were announcing the death of English Rugby ater the first 2 games of the World Cup, having narrowly won their 1st game and were beaten 33-0 by South Africa. A load of s**t. They gave them team of the year ahead of the Scottish soccer team and the Indoor Cycling World Champions. They were that good a team their coach wasn't even nominated for Coach of the Year. Super Jonny was nominated for 3 games work. What a fu**ed up country!!!!!!

The Scottish football team that finished 3rd in their qualifying campaign for the last 16 in Europe should get team of the year against the English rugby team that finished 2nd in the world. Yeah right. :confused:

Christine Ohuruogu deservedly in last place. I'm surpised to see Andy Murray and Justin Rose so low. Its nice to see Jonny Wilkonson down the list because he did nothing all year except play half a World Cup. Paula Radcliffe ran 1 race. Jason Robinson only on the list never mind in 5th place cause hes retiring.
Nice to see James Toseland so high aswell, he deserved an award for his piano skills alone. Looks like he ran Hatton close too. Calzaghe won comfortably nice to see him rewarded for being the best boxer in the world.

I'm shocked that only 630,455 voted! Are the Brits losing interest?

That's not a bad vote: 600k plus. It's not the hugely prestigious event it used to be when there were only a couple of terrestial channels and with not much for the Brits to shout for, other than the rugby team and the boxers.

delighted joe calzaghe won it he deserves recognition after being at the top of his game for so long, what about enzo calzaghe that moustache made him look like a gangster,quality:D
