I thought Onuoha was the U-21 captain? Almost certain the commentator said he was for City's game at the weekend against Sheffield United?
Is O'Dea our U-21 captain?

It does look a bit tricky alright. Apparently, its a half hour walk to the ground from Southampton Central station. The match tickets actuctally come with return bus tickets attached, presumably for the shuttle bus that takes fans from the station to the ground.
More info here; http://www.footballgroundguide.co.uk/Thanks for the info.

Possible, he's been injured for the last few U-21 games, so Taylor was captain. I doubt they'll take it off him. O'Dea is Captain yes.
Would Ireland be much stronger with McGeady, McShane, Ireland, J O'Brien and Shane Long in the squad.(Obviously, but how much)

Ah balls. Really disappointed with that news. I'm starting to get worried that I'm never going to see a best 11 available for Ireland at any level. :o

Quinn-Garvan-O'Toole-O'Brien is still a good looking midfield 4. At least it makes selection easier. O'Toole is at least as deserving of a place as Gibson & McCann, or at least not far off it. I'd like to have seen Gibson at this level though.

Would have like to have seen McCann in there to offer the defence a bit of protection but hownever its still a fairly healthy looking midfield.

I'd say Garvan and O'Toole will compliment each other well. O'Toole is quite combative. Garvan will probably sit deep enough spraying the passes around.

think apart from mark noble and arron lennon perhaps, anthony stokes and owen garven will be the best players on show tonight. theo walcott has got to be one o the most overhyped players in the world. fancy ireland to do better than most expect in this

Mark Noble would walk into our senior team. And his granny is Irish!

"serious claims for a penalty" I quote.
JJ O´Toole held back on his way to direct another bullit header to the back of the net.
Irish boys looking good so far.

irish lads look very fluid, but i think thats cos englands midfield is non-existant. jjotoole looks like a really good player on the ball. not seen garvan or clarke do much...

Just checking the trains from London to Southampton for Tuesday's game.
Getting there in time after work should be easy enough for me, getting home trickier.
Where in Southampton is St. Mary's?
Is Southampton Central the best station? How far is it from the ground?
The last train from Southampton Central back to London is 10.00pm (unless you take the slower train which takes 2.5 hours).
Is anyone driving back to London?
Count yourself fortunate that you have transport to travel home after the game. It's practically impossible to get public transport home at night after long distance games here. :(

It should be noted that the Irish anthem appeared to be very well respected by the capacity crowd (unless of course the crafty Sky techies switched off all their mikes).

Mc Caffrey is a much better tactician than Givens anyway, the team are set up much better than in Cork even though its the same formation in theory.

Are we playing this good because the lads are pumped up for playing against England or is McCaffrey just a much better manager than Givens? Makes you think.
NeilMcD
05/02/2008, 7:34 PM
They were playing England in Cork and they played well but they were let down by a couple of individual errors and a bit of bad luck but also because they got exposed time and time again down the righ channell which they are not tonight.

playing very well. Our back 4 look solid and if Garvan had scored....that would have been replayed for years! They don't look out of their depth and they are up against some 'big name' players

Yeah playing well I must say, I like O Toole he seems to be able the physical side of the game which is good and our 3 in midfield are keeping it better than the English.

Passing the ball as well as we did by this stage against England at home with the difference being we're not 3-0 down. :D The main reason for that would be a central midfielder in O'Toole playing instead of the attacking Jim O'Brien. It was a crazy attacking lineup Givens went with in the home tie but this is a lot more balanced.
Garvan looking the most established player on the pitch imo. O'Toole looks good beside him. Quinn as always is good on the ball but too lightweight. Stokes is playing too deep for my liking (by instruction).

Our back four look very comfortable. Some nice one touch stuff by us in the last 20mins or so. Commentary here in the States wants to make me puke though. Has to be a Sky commentator.

McCaffrey in Givens out;).
I love the way 1 of the three wise men are one of the pundits for an U21 game involving Ireland - only in Ireland would this happen, it's great to know his mind is firmly on the Irish managerial appointmennt.
BTW very impressed with the side tonight, Stokes is giving his all, and I can't really single out one player because they're all playing ver well.

Ireland didn't really deserve to go 1-0 down to be honest. It took some Milner magic to make things happen for England.
By the way, Walcott is a disaster.

It was lack a daysical by O'Halloran, a John O'Shea sense of conviction about sticking out his boot.
English goal was on the cards and the Irish should have been trying to keep the game tighter.
