Why's he only talking to them now? Derry lads would have you believe he signed no the dotted line months ago!

There's something weird about the article like the way it mentions his desire to play for Derry is known. Do Derry really have the cash to purchase a player who although has potential is no finished article? I just can't see him making such an improvement to the team that he'll be worth the outlay required to sign him.

Who've they got up front? Farren, McHugh, Morrow - would he get his game ahead of those?
Still, won't say no for a decent fee. Although they pulled out of the Quigley signing at the start of the season because they didn't want to pay.

Kevin McDaid seems to reckon he's ageed terms and it's just up to the clubs now. I hope we don't get soft and will look for top dollar for him.

C. €120k per the criteria. Have a bad feeling we will give in to a lower fee though.

How do you work that out?!
No club'll pay that, in here or in England. Not even Atletic Bilbao would pay that.

It was mentioned shortly before Roy O'Donovan left Cork. Cork would have kept hold of him until the end of the season but they only would have gotten €240k/€180k for him. Not sure of the exact break down but seeing as Sammo is a similar age and also has U-21 caps their criteria would be more or less the same.*
If the player signs for a:
Premiership team- €240k
Championship/SPL- €180k
League 1/SPL 2- €120k
League 2- €60k
I think it's safe to assume that the eircom League would fall into the third category.
*only difference is that O'Donovan had a B cap, but don't know if they're recognised. Wouldn't account for all that much anyway.

Have Derry ever paid us a fee for any player they signed from us?
I only ask cause I can't recall. I know James Keddy back in 1996 was a Bosman ...... and we got nothing for PJ ........

What should we expect for Sammo? Would 50,000 be to high?

He's agreed a contract according to BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/irish/7119623.stm). No mention of the fee.

I can't imagine we are in the position to pay big transfer fees, so anything over 40k would surprise me, not to mention anno me as there are other positions we need to fill.
40k would've been better spent on Quigley.

Doubt it.
Richie Purdy, Ciaran Martyn et al were frees as well.
My view is that we've plunged into this deal without properly costing it. No surprise though...........

I'd be worried if you paid for Richie Purdy! Do we have a sell-on clause on Martyn?

My only point of reference in all this is to wonder how many Alan Cawleys is he worth. 40,000 is two Alan Cawleys which is probably fair.

That's dangerous thinking Student Mullet. If we continue like this, you may wind up converting him into yet more exotic units of currency and deciding that he's definitely not worth 2,000 steak dinners or 40,000 cups of tea.

But St Pat's signed Glen Fitzpatrick from Drogheda for E10k, and he's worth 1000000 Glens. It starts getting confusing then. And we paid Drogheda a tenner to take Doolin, which means Sammo's worth about -£100000000000000!
Derry didn't sign Purdy off us, and we had a 50% subsequent fee clause on Martyn's sale, I've heard, but I assume that's long since expired.

Sure all that means is that Pats overpaid for Glen, who's actually worth 4 cent.

So they offered only €5k for Quigley last year. We castigate English clubs for offering miserly sums and trying to sell eL clubs short. Derry deserve their goal keeping trouble of last season for that.
What happens if the tribunal sets a fee you can't meet? Can you back out or are you obligated to sign the player?
CollegeTillIDie

Yes Derry's goalkeeping problems were well deserved. May they continue to be forced to sign Ola Tidmans and his ilk:D
Goalkeepers are vital and good ones necessary for success. The last decent team to win anything with a really dodgy keeper were the Brazil 1970 World Cup side.

History shows that the FAI will pay it.

Only if you're Shelbourne though. There isn't a precedent for non-Shelbourne clubs that I'm aware of.

Went to tribunal - Galway wanted €50k, they were "awarded" €22k, 10% of which went to his former club in Ballinrobe.
And DCFC paid it - not the FAI.

I wonder how much of his fee will filter onto Cherry Orchard. There was a small piece in the times yesterday about how clubs like Orchard and Crumlin United are getting together to ensure they're getting their full entitlements.

With the schoolboy clubs demanding more for early preparation of players, transfer fees are going to increase.
i see robertson has been sacked, two days after sammo signed i believe! could be a tough season for sammo if the new gaffer (possibly kenny again) sees what i see in him!

Makes you wonder who actually signed him...?
The previous board negotiated with him on behalf of Robertson and AFAIK the current board negotiated the transfer fee.
