Who are the real "Latics"

Just a nickname for "Athletic" named clubs really. Oldham were just the first prominent Latic's I think.

Alot of teams have the word 'Athletic' after their name (Leeds is another) but dont use the term day to day.

Similarly alot of "Spanish/Portuguese" clubs use terms like Racing, Real (Royal), Deportivo, Sporting, Atletico etc but dont always use them in day to day use.
Benfica's full name is "Sport Lisboa e Benfica" but then you also have Sporting Lisbon who's proper name is "Sporting Clube de Portugal".

Its a throwback to a bygone age when clubs were formed to play a multiple of sports. In Spain, some still do, especially basketball.

Usually if you have united or rovers etc after your name you would not also have athletic or something

Positive. Always been Leeds United AFC.

Actually 'wikipedia' says that it stands for 'Association'.

Theres no mention at all on the official Leeds website.

Any Leeds fans on here that can clarify this.

Revie's lagacy was changing their colours from blues/white to all white to make them look like Real Madrid.

And did you know Notts County copied it after seeing Al Finucane and the Newcastle West AFC boys tour england in 1910 ;)
Juve won there first title wearing black/white stripes in 1905.

Originally they wore pink jerseys because they were sponsored by a newspaper.

Oldham are thre real 'Latticks' (note the 'k' in the name). It's because Athletic spoken fast in a Lancashire accent sounds like 'Lattick' when said after Oldham.

Don't worry about the johhny-come-latelys in Wigan - Charlton tried to claim the 'Latticks' title year ago, but it just doesn't work with a Cockney accent... (maybe 'Flettick', not Lattick'...)
