Longford spoil the RSC party

Waterford United 1-1 Longford Town
Longford Town travelled down to Waterford and can count themselves unlucky to return back home with only a share of the spoils after an excellent performance.

Waterford started in a whirlwind and nearly opened the scoring after just four minutes of play when Alan Reilly controlled beautifully before firing over, but the home fans only had to wait eight minutes for the opening goal.

Daryl Murray collected a pass from Kevin O’Brien and he rounded two Longford defenders before firing past Stephen O’Brien in the Longford net. At that stage the home support were anticipating more goals but Longford began to come more into the game and were level on the quarter hour.

Thomas Hughes scored an own goal as he tried to intercept a Shane Barrett cross which was headed in the direction of the unmarked Eric Lavine. Hughes got there first but could only watch as his effort at a clearance ended up in the back of his net.

Longford then looked the more lively side with Barry Ferguson’s header nicking the crossbar while Lavine saw an effort just go inches wide. Longford continued to push in the second period with Murphy and O’Brien testing Connor in the Waterford goal
