these look reasonable @ €200 inc tax. would work well if its a double header with cyprus/montenegro etc

montenegro would be much better as part of a double header. cyprus would require more flights and they probably wouldn't be cheap.

Sofia is a beautiful city and had 4 Irish bars in 2000 when I visited there with UCD en route to our Intertoto Cup tie in Kyustendil. There were 8 Irish citizens resident in Sofia at the time so they must have been total lushes :D

Just a shout to people who want to book this. Czech Airlines will have 7th June (return) flights on sale tomorrow. You'll get a return for €245 if you get in before they put up prices. They accept Laser.

€251 was the best I could get which is pretty decent. Yet another Prague stopover.

Malev also have good prices on the route but you don't get back to Dublin until late Sunday night.

Easyjet and wizzair fly to Sofia, so there should be some cheap options

If you're looking to book with Czech Airlines you might have to put return date as 6th June and select Flexible Dates. Then you can choose 7th. Flight details attached. I just chose 31st May as Departure date.

Is there nothing easier than a five hour wait in Prague?

eirebhoy
11/07/2008, 3:53 PM
We had to wait a similar time in London on the way to Slovakia and it flew in. You'll be drinking in the bar for less than 3 hours which usually flies. I suppose if you're only going for the weekend though it's not ideal.

True but, Montenegro would be much tougher than first imagined. You'd have to go through Kosovo in Serbia to get to Bulgaria, possibly Macedonia as well, and god knows what bureaucracy that entails in the current climate.

Won't be able to go to either Georgia or Montenegro :(, Italy looks very doubtful at the moment, so Bulgaria is a more favourable option now. I would try and do a mini Balkan tour, and tie Bucharest or Belgrade with Sofia in the trip.

Matchwise, it is known as very hostile, and on the field, it will be very tough.

Anyone thinking of staying in Sunny Beach, you can fly into Bourgas with plenty of low fares airlines. A company called Platinum Developments in Sandyford are the biggest builders in Sunny Beach and they have a management company that will rent out apartments in Sunny Beach.

Aer Lingus flew into Bourgas this year but only started middle of june..Wizz air and sky europe also fly in to bourgas but also tend to start early june..Hopefully one of them starts end of may next year, then its a case of the getting the cheap flights once they come out.

Thats great info lads.

What about getting home on the 7th from sofia after the match. Czech Airways €174 seems a bit steep so far in advance.

I believe the flying time from Sunny Beach to Sofia is close to 2 hours, not ideal to be heading up on the day of the game.

The game's on a Bank Holiday weekend, which is a bit handier. Thinking of Saturday to Tuesday with one day's holidays. All depends on kick off though. They're playing Italy next month with a Saturday evening kick off, which'd be perfect.
