i agree with cookie on the need to keep our best players and build a team around them unless someone comes in with a really good offer but do we really want to keep a player (talkin about any player here and not just faz) that doesnt want to stay, a player whoose effort and attitude might worsen because they werent allowed to go and ultimatlely will leave for nothing anyway,

We're talking about a professional footballer here whose career depends on his form and his attitude. Should Cookie decide to go against Faz's wish and hold on to him then the play has to honour the contract. It's more in the interest of the player that he performs to the best of his ability while he plays out the remainder of the contract for obvious reasons. Only unless the player is a complete ****artist )which Faz is not) will he not want to impress other clubs to come in for him.

what age is faz? .... 22 i think. Correct me if i am wrong but therefore we will be entitled to a fee for him even when he is out of contract at the end of the season.

Rovers have turned down 30,000 for Faz. See Below.

What a pathetic offer.
that offer is an insult to the club and player himself. it's s*ite when a club like drogheda try to pull off stunt like this.shows perception of our club in the league:mad:

Not an insult to SRFC just business sense by Drogheda.
Start low and increase the Transfer Amount on offer in increments until accepted we would do the same if we were in Drogheda's position........then again rumours be believed the debts have built up there already.

good business sense ? if faz was with another team his transfer fee would start alot higher. they'd want to up to at least 70k plus add ons.

What player has transferred within the league for anything over E40k?

Not sure about him. Byrne did, but he was worth it.
Point is, talk of E50k or E70k like on here is surely pie in the sky unless he goes abroad.

Fair enough but if they think he's worth over 50k then they shouldn't sell him for less just because it's an EL club.

True, but a value of E50k would make him one of the most expensive (and, you would have to infer the best) players in the league's history. Which he's not.

Shane Barrett, LTFC to Drogs, 50k apparently.

My point was that its good business sense for Drogheda to keep increasing their bid until Rovers bite which given Faz has put in a transfer request they most likely will.
Why offer over 70k or whatever when you can go 20k, 30k, 40k and the selling team bites at 50k......basic economics and logic.
Would you offer 7grand for a car you think you can get for
4k?
I dont think so.
Rovers, or any other club would do the same in Droghedas position , most if not all transfer bids in woprldfootball are a negotiation process of seller aiming high buyer offering low until they meet somewhere in the middle.

I see what your saying G&G and your absolutely right - just worried that becuase we are Sligo Rovers we'll end up losing faz for less that what he's worth to us. that's all.

Why sell him within the league? Any chance we could get a Scottish team or a lower league English team interested and get more?

any chance we could just hold onto him and stop being a feeder club for all other clubs in the LOI, or england.
turner, burns, turner, mansaram, singh, hughes some of the better players to play for rovers over the last 2/3 years, all gone to other clubs in the league, we have to start tryin to hold onto players or else we wont have any chance of making any improvment on our league position!

I would think the strategy that would lead to greater long term success would be to sell players off and reinvest in developing more quality young players to sell off for higher and higher fees. This would be a repeatable business model and one that would ultimately allow a financial model that affords keeping good enough players to win the league.
At least that works for me on Football Manager :)

Ideally this would be the ideal strategy to acheiving success over the long term.
However this would be dependant on many many factors which just dont exist at Sligo Rovers at present. It's very very hard to see how changes can be implemented and I think it will take something radical to happen for such changes to come about.
For now we will have to work as we are and just continue to support our club as we have been doing. The people at the club do great work and we should all continue to support them and the club in anyway we can !! The season ahead could be a long one but am still looking forward to new season !!
