First of all, tonights echo says the tickets for the home game go on sale today.
There's also an article by Noel Spillane on the boardroom changes:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Former Cobh Ramblers and College Corinthians player Michael O'leary has been appointed chairman of CCFC after a boardroom shake-up. The Cross Refrigeration chairman has taken over following a boardroom reshuffle in which:
-Outgoing chairman terry dunne steps down after five years in office.
- Greg Cantillon relinquishes his post as chief exec.
- Jim Murphy opts out as club sec.
- Two top posts, chariman and treasurer are merged.
- The post of chief exec. has been shelved.
O'Leary's appointment is the biggest news. The new chariman is based in Cork and it makes it far more convenient for everyone.
Jim Murphy has ended his 12-month stint as sec. but continues as the club's official FAI delegate while Noel O'Mahony, another director, comes back in as club sec.
"Terry Dunne had been in the chair since the start when the new board came in and saved the club from liquidation. The thing is we all have other business interestsa outside of the football club, and after a 5 year stint Terry just felt that it was time to step down. He will continue to have a seat on the board" said a club source.
The club have also decided to do away with the post of chief exec. after Greg Cantillon stepped down for personal reasons.
The club, with average annual running costs of close on £200,000 had a bad year financially in the season just ended as the FMD crisis hit home.
"There was a big lull in the middle of the season and our gate receipts dropped when we slipped out of the league race and the FAI cup early on but the FMD scare ruined our season" the source added.
"Things fell away around Xmas and that certainly put a financial strain on the club but every player's contract was honoured here and that covered the 52 weeks of the year"
The other consideration in that CCFC simply by its geographical location does more travelling than any other eL side and that cuts too deep into the budget.

This, I think, is good news on the whole. It's obvious the club was being run badly, so however few the changes, they're better than none. It's still more or less the same old cronies on the board, but maybe with this bout of musical chairs things will improve.
Dunne going is the best news I've ever heard, good riddance, Terry take the the High road to Kerry and never look back.
A former player as Chairman may improve PR/ fan-club relations: Hopefully anyway.
HOWEVER,
Noel O'Mahony getting promotion is bad, he having been the most malicious and rabid of those who condemned the "Not to Leicester" campaign without even listening to concerns- the man is obnoxious and pig-headed.
AND, the shelving of the Chief exec's post is surely a step in the wrong direction, however good/bad cantillon was- he should have been replaced.
All in all, good news, and I won't be shedding ANY tears for Terry Dunne. Now where's my champagne..........

Firstly i'm glad to see terry dunne gone. he was a grumpy old man who didnt seem to have much interest in the club, whereas Micheal O Leary is a football man, he has played the game and also has experiance from cobh and from corinthians.

Greg cantillan left ages ago didnt he and thats a pity as the club seem to be going back into the dark ages again.

- Two top posts, chariman and treasurer are merged.

and as for this, its very bad from a governance point of view as the two positions should be seperate so that one person does not have too much control.

Its a shame to hear the club whinging about having to do all that travel, more then anyone else and then also complaining about the F&M disease and the poor gates.
Who's fault is that? Theres.
If they want people to turn up then they should market the club better. it's a simple as that.

Can't say if Terry Dunne stepping down will make much difference?

The club, with average annual running costs of close on £200,000 had a bad year financially in the season just ended as the FMD crisis hit home.

If don't want to go on about this as obviously I don't know the full financial situation of the club but 200k running costs a year is far lower than i'd have thought & if the club can't at least break even in a year we finish 3rd in the league then the whole board should resign!!!!

Thats only 4k a week running costs.
Lets say an (low) average gate of 1.5k * 5 quid a head & 20 games = 150k alone. They are very conservative figures in a season with low attendances.

Course when you spend 40k on a junket to latvia (= 2.5 months running costs) then you're going to be in trouble.

Do your sums for a couple of years ago when the club averaged gates of 4k+

Yeah ...but how much of that cash has followed through, not a whole lot, the board in five years never seemed to embrace the club and tried to make a go of it, it seems like it was a hobby for the most of them, although apointing greg seemed like a move (amoung other things, like planning permission, even if it comes to nothing, it still costs before you lay a block) in the right direction, positive and interest at heart, maybe it has a whole lot more to it than we give credit for, I AM NOT taking their side here, i hate the lack of pro-activity in the club just as much as the next guy but ... maybe it is just breaking even at best and just existing. What will happen at the gates next year is the thing, with the cash, we can get out of a rutt, without we stay the way we are. What are the first four games at home next year and where on the table will we stand, this is the desider at the cross, if they do well then we are cool, and have a great year of support, the ground buzzing and great atmosphere, or it is poor and the club hide from the papers again. having said that ... it cant be as bad as last year. what an event it was!!?!?

Has anyone ever met Michael O'Leary?

Is he going to be more prominent/approachable that Dunne?

Neil

Never met him, but the fact that he was with College Corinthians might suggest that he is more of a football man than Dunne.... hopefully!

the only thing is shouldn't we be looking for a businessman rather than a football man? or did we try that already? maybe we haven't found the right businessman?

Does anyone else think that its not a wise move to have the Chairman & Treasurer as the same person?

Isn't the Treasurers job to watch over the Chairman? (the guy signing the cheques) oe would both those guys normally have to sign off on any club/company cheques?

Will our New Leader be able to devote enough time to City? Undertaking both those roles will surely take a good deal of time?

Anyone get the feeling theres more to this than lack of funds? Surely the Chairman & Treasurer doesn't get paid???

Does anyone actually know for sure if the directors are paid or not?

Is our new chairman/treasurer holding onto his current job in Cross Refrigeration?

How many full-time staff will the club have this season?

With him having both positions, it doesn't look good .... not saying it couldn't work but more often than not, it doesn't.
We shouldn't jump to any conclusions though. After all, tightening the purse strings is better when done early rather than late. And if it has to be done to resolve the problems right now, then so be it. Or am i totally wrong?

It's just galling that we are even in financial difficulty. A lot of money has been squandered and wasted, and it's all down to the completely inept business skills of our board.

I can live in hope that the movement in the board room will bring change for the good, but I doubt it very much. Same 'ole City...?
