It's a disgrace but Showgies should be more secure. I've often passed by and see bottom gate left open at night. I know it'd be practically impossible to be able to stop people getting in[hop the wall and that] but theirs no need to be inviting these idiots into the ground by not securing the place and leaving gate open. Time for security cameras I think.

The new front office windows are all bust plus its visible from walking by the Showgrounds that some of the seats in the centre of the stand have been damaged. In the Weekender total that two computers were stolen and the total estimated worth damage came to 8000 euro. Beer cans littered everywhere so they were obviously there awhile.

this is terrible news. the club is financially very tight as it is but for this to happen it must really depress all that are actively involved with sligo rovers. hopefully insurace will cover the costs but this takes tme and right noe the club are a further 8k in the red as im sure repairs will have to be completed a.s.a.p. now i would like to make an impassioned plea to any body out ther who may here something. obviously when the autographed jersey and computers were taken they will surface at some stage and someone will hear something especially about the jersey. these things can never be kept hidden.i feel it is our duty as genuine supporters to keep our ears to the ground and try and find out who the culprits are. something will be let slip in some pub or low life conversation. what i think we should do is set up a post here and if there is any info available let the club and gardai know. these b....... must be caught. with all that has happened over the weekend and the bad publicity about the betting over the bray game the club is at a very low ebb. but it is from such situations that we must help the club at all costs. just to clear the so called betting scam implication this was also a false accusation toward the club and i feel whoever instigated that story to the press and media should be uncloaked as they have done sligo rovers no favours whatsover. however our priorityb is to try and flush out some info regarding the vandalism. i would like peoples opinion on this. sholud we open apost on it?

NO.1 I'm sure Foot.ie would be subject to libel if we named names of people suspected.
No.2 I don't know anyone involved, and if i did, i would not dream of posting it on a public forum. that's just completely foolish.

never mind the guards what would they do? these are obviously young fella's someone knows them and we all know what has to be done with them. even if its insured that will push the premium sky high because it shows how insecure the place is. hope the culprits arent on this with their new computers though:eek::eek:

just to correct any confusion with regard to finding out who vandalised the showgrounds. it would be totally wrong to name any names here or any sensitive info. as i said before go directly to the guards and club. these culprits must be found they will run rampage again . if all genuine posters on this board keep an ear to the ground maybe something will be unearthed. sligo is a small town and news travels fast and a lot of yee young guys socialise in sligo at weekends. its possible that yee will hear something or suspicions can be aroused but make sure that the info is from a reliable source. if thes people can be caught they will be shamed in front of the whole community as rovers is a community club. this is very important because i can tell you there are a lot of very angry and disgusted people out there. so lets try and help out the club to the best of our ability. one thing i did'nt like about the sligo champion this week is that they made the so called betting scam front page headlines and only done a very low profile story
on the vandalism on a subsequent page. it my estimation it sholud have being visa /versa because the "betting scam" proved to be in correct wheras the vandalism was a reality. a black mark for the champion.

Red Arrow - the sligo champion is a news paper with a slight pun on the word news. I fail to see the logic in your post. If something occurs and re-occurs it's not exactly news and shouldn't be treated as so. For too long I'm hearing of instances where the showgrounds has been vandalised. It's not a matter of asking what are the local media doing about it but more a matter of what are the people running the club doing about it. How many times have we heard about the gates of the showgrounds thrown wide open for all insundry to 'pay it a visit'. How many of us would be foolish enough to leave or cars or houses open and invite the opportunist to come and try it?
Publicising the ineptness of people wont solve the problem, installing CCTV or employing a security company will. This is something that should have been done years ago and not closing the gate now that the horse has bolted.
Another thing, the young people that committed the crime are not going to go around bragging about their behaviour no matter what circle they hang out in. So ears to the ground will only cause the loss of a head.
If you want to have a go at anyone have a go at the people responsible for not securing the premises properly.
Rant over!

Good news if true. But rather than dragging them through the courts, try hitting them in the pocket, unitl every bit of damage has been paid for. And if insurance covered it, let them pay the premium for the next three years minimum.
That's the justice that would be handed down in MyCourt anyhoo.

Not sure if this would hold up in court if it gets that far hopefully families will cover damage.
