The 2007 season is over and its time to reflect on the good, bad and the ugly from the season. Comments are not in any particular order or is the list exhaustive. So here goes......

Plusses

1. No relegation
2. 5 teams conceded more goals than us
3. Signings: Nootimer, Fitzgerald, Lester, Rogers, O’Halloran
4. Good away form
5. Return from injury of Alan Keane
6. U-21 Team: Hopefully some players will make transition to first team
7. New stand
8. Attendances: Overall pretty good and great atmosphere

Minuses

1. Only one team scored less than us in the league
2. We only managed to score 4 goals from midfield all season
3. Signings: Brinias, Tracy, Armstrong (injury), Mensah (injury)
4. Only 3 strikers scored all season
5. Top scorer in league was 7 goals
6. Form of Alan Murphy
7. Concession of late goals
8. Poor home performances
9. We used a total of 29 players in the league..Too many
10. Poor performances in both Cup competitions
11. Inability to effectively use the pace of Derek Glynn….need to eliminate hoof football
12. For first few months of season, Regi was brilliant at centre-half and then to accommodate other players he was moved to right full where he was less effective
13. Wes is NOT a left full.
14. Alan Murphy is a not a right-sided midfielder
15. The idea of trying to offload Foley when it was to be proven what a vital player he was in the squad.

So what is the wish list for 2008:

1. A solid left full
2. A solid right-sided midfielder
3. A goal scorer
4. A more attractive brand of football
5. A proper PA system
6. A continuity of the hard work and effort of the off-field management and directors
7. More attractive friendlies
8. A better quality match programme
9. A couple of local U-21’s to make the step up to first team

2. A solid right-sided midfielder

If we keep Derek O'Brien play him there (think he would be much more effective there) and look for a left-sided midfielder. We'd have a strong RHS with Keano and Derek working it.

Derek O Brien is not and can not play on the right side.Just because he is right footed does not mean he should play on the right. He plays on the left because he likes to cut in and take on players with his right foot.

Any way rumour has it his already gone !

the pa system is great in the new stand if there is some bloke talking with a mike on the pitch

the announcer is very hard to hear at the moment - which is not a bad thing:D

Where our points came from:

Home Away Total

Longford Town 4 3 7
Derry City 4 1 5
UCD 4 1 5
Bray Wanderers 0 4 4
Sligo Rovers 3 1 4
St. Patrick's 0 3 3
Cork City 0 2 2
Drogheda Utd. 1 1 2
Bohemians 0 1 1
Shamrock Rovers 1 0 1
Waterford 0 1 1

You could argue the figure for Longford should read 13 given the six points everyteam got off them. The tables highlight (as if we didn't know) our better form on the road, even if we finished with three consecutive home wins.(Three of the home victories featured 3 goals from set pieces by Wesley).

What teams got off us

Home Away Total

Waterford 3 4 7
Bohemians 3 4 7
Shamrock Rovers 1 6 7
St. Patrick's 6 0 6
Drogheda Utd. 4 1 5
Cork City 3 2 5
Sligo Rovers 3 1 4
Bray Wanderers 3 1 4
Derry City 1 1 2
UCD 1 1 2
Longford Town 1 0 1

Very disappointing to see what Waterford, Bohs, Shamrock Rovers & Pats got off us overall. Otherwise, we did okay for a first year back IMO.

Statistics always paint a clear picture and are spoofer-proof.
Good work, MyTown.

We got three points or less against six clubs. Very poor against Waterford,
three additional points over three games against them would have lifted us
into 7th position and given some more breathing space at the end of the season.

We have to be more clinical against Bray, Cobh, UCD etc next season, especially at home.

Our biggest problem this season was scoring goals. Next Season we will have a fully fit Stevo ,Derek Glynn even sharper than last year and at least one other Quality Striker which should remedy this.

Good post Sham.

The only other thing that we should be aiming for is Europe.

Next Season we will have a fully fit Stevo

We HOPE to have a fully fit Stevo, no guarantee he won;t get crocked with injury. He have to gring in a couple of strikers

System is very hard to hear on the old stand side and almost impossible at the main turnstile entrance where PD sells the programmes. I could see the new speakers but couldnt hear what the announcer was saying. Yet Ollie with the roving mike at half time was crystal clear. Maybe just 1 more speaker down that area might do the trick

I was in the new stand at half-time and the on-pitch mike was perfectly clear, but the PA was practically inaudible.

If everybody was a little quieter in Terryland we would have no problem hearing the PA. SSHHH!
